    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a conveying roll and a hearth roll for a continuous annealing furnace which have a thermal-spray film applied on their surfaces in order to simultaneously solve such problems as slippage, meandering, dust-sticking and build-up of a steel sheet.
      SOLUTION: This conveying roll has the thermal-spray film having a ratio R/R' of ≥4 on the surface, wherein R represents a roughness parameter measured by setting a cut-off value to an initial value according to JIS B 0633, and R' represents a roughness parameter measured by setting the cut-off value to 1/10 of the initial value. The roughness parameter R is one of Ra, Rq, Rp, Rv, and Rz. The hearth roll has the roughness parameter Ra measured by setting the cut-off value to 2.5 mm of ≥2 μm. The thermal-spray film desirably consists of ceramics, cermet or heat-resistant alloy having 20 to 300 μm thickness.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cooling roll for twin roll type thin sheet continuous casting apparatus in which a hot fatigue resistance of a cooling roll base material is strengthened with a comparatively inexpensive means so that the stable continuous casting can be performed for long term.
      SOLUTION: In a method for manufacturing one pair of cooling rolls rotatively driven each in reverse direction for continuously casting the thin sheet from molten metal, the surface of the roll base material composed of a copper or a copper alloy is applied with a peening treatment by using an ultrasonic vibration. A part subjected to the peening treatment is desirable to be formed by the ultrasonic vibration on the surface of the roll base material under condition of 20-50 μm amplitude and 10-50 kHz number of vibration.
