    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tampering detection apparatus and tampering detection method which perform high accuracy tampering detection even under relatively large deterioration of an image to be detected with respect to a source image. SOLUTION: A signal image for comparison corresponding to bits of watermark information extracted from image data D1 to be detected is generated, the watermark information being constituted of a bit stream in which values of bits are specified in accordance with a correlation between the signal image for comparison and a source image I, and the image data D1 to be detected being obtained by embedding the watermark information while superimposing it on the source image I. A correlation value between the image data D1 and each signal image for comparison is calculated, the bits of the watermark information is compared with the correlation value of the corresponding signal image for comparison. When the values of the bits of the signal image for comparison are not matched with the correlation between the signal image for comparison and the source image I, from these comparison results, absolute values of the correlation values are integrated, and on the basis of the integrated value, presence/absence of tampering for the image data D1 is determined.
