    • PURPOSE:To suppress degradation in machining quality and to increase the volumetric rate of reinforcing fibers in a fiber reinforced metallic part by impregnating a preform for reinforcement consisting of ceramic fibers previously formed with a ring groove with molten metal and press forming this preform. CONSTITUTION:The preform 5 is formed by putting alumina fibers 2, cordierite particles 3 and carbon fibers 4 into a cylindrical vessel of water spraying molding machine, dissolving the mixture in a solvent, pressurizing the mixture, removing soln. moisture from the orifice, taking the molding out of the vessel and drying and calcining the molding, thereby molding the preform as a sponge form. The ring groove ID, etc., are machined in the calcined circular preform 5 and is shaped to a prescribed shape. Such preform 5 is set in metal molds for molding a piston and an aluminum alloy of the molten metal is poured into the metal molds. The molten metal is press formed by a plunger formed with the inner shape of the piston in a pressurizing and impregnating stage. As a result, the preform 5 is impregnated with the molten aluminum alloy, by which the preform 5 and the aluminum alloy are combined.

    • PURPOSE:To lead exhaust gas into a purifier without lowering the temperature thereof so as to enhance the purifying performance of the purifier by forming the body of an exhaust manifold with a ceramic member, and by wrapping the ceramic member with a heat-resistant resin member. CONSTITUTION:An exhaust manifold 1 is composed of an exhaust manifold body 2 formed of a ceramic member having a low thermal conductivity, and a heat-resistant resin member 3 wrapping the exhaust manifold body 2. In this arrangement, the ceramic member forming the exhaust manifold body 2 is made of a material having a porosity large as possible and a low thermal conductivity so as to enhance the heat insulating effect. Meanwhile, in order to compensate the fragility of the ceramic member, the exhaust manifold body 2 is wrapped with the resin member 3 so as to enhance the durability. With this arrangement, the exhaust gas discharged from the engine may be led into a purifier without lowering the temperature of exhaust gas, thereby it is possible to enhance the purifying performance.

    • PURPOSE:To improve the dimensional accuracy of the main body of a toothed wheel and enhance the strength of the tooth flank by applying the shot-peening treatment on the tooth part, and performing the hard-finish processing only on the tooth flank part between the region near the tooth crest and the part of bottom land. CONSTITUTION:The shot-peening treatment is performed on each tooth part 2 of a toothed wheel main body 1 of an untreated toothed wheel. A shot-peening treatment part 4, where minute irregularities are formed on the entire surface where the treatment is performed by the injection pressure traces of small steel balls when the shot-peening treatment is performed, is formed on each tooth part 2 of this toothed wheel main body 1, on which the shot-peening treatment is performed. Also, after this shot-peening treatment is applied, the hard-finish processing is successively performed only on the tooth flank part 7 between the region near the tooth crest 5 of each tooth part 2 and a bottom land 6 of the toothed wheel main body 1. Then, machining by CBN tool is performed only on the tooth flank part 7 between the region near the tooth crest 5 and the bottom land 6 of each tooth part 2 of the toothed wheel main body 1, and a hard-finish processing part 8 having small irregularities is formed.
