    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device capable of simultaneously and easily grinding both the faces of a thin disk work with a high machining quality and capable of reducing the size thereof. SOLUTION: This double face grinding device comprises a pair of grinding wheels 9, a work self-rotating means supportedly self-rotating a work W on a grinding position between grinding faces 9 so that the both ground surfaces of the work W face the ground faces 9a of the pair of stones 9, the outer periphery of the work W crosses the outer periphery of the ground faces 9a, and the center of the work W is positioned in the ground faces 9a, and a work storage and retrieval means. The self-rotating means comprises a static pressure type axial supporting means for supplying fluid to both machined surfaces of the work at the portion extended to the outside from a clearance between the stones to axially support the work W by the static pressure of the fluid in the state of non-contact with each other. The storage and retrieval means feeds the work W to a grinding position where the work W is supported by the static pressure type axial supporting means in the state of non-contact with each other, and carries out the work W from the grinding position.

    • PURPOSE:To accurately measure the length of a work even if there is a thermal displacement, etc., by measuring a reference face for measuring dimension and finding the length based on the measuring value of the end face to be measured of a work and this measuring value of the reference face. Based on these measuring results the distance from the dimension measuring reference face to the end face to be measured of the work is found and based on the measuring result of this distance and the chuck projection amt. stored in advance the length from the chuck surface of the work to the end face to be measured is found.

    • PURPOSE:To improve working accuracy and to increase working efficiency by arranging a main shaft base table moved in a 1st horizontal direction parallel to the axial line of a work and in a 2nd horizontal direction orthogonal therewith and a turret head revolved centering around the shaft parallel to the 2nd horizontal direction and fitted with plural grindstones. CONSTITUTION:Multistage grinding is performed by changing grindstone 27-29 by revolving a turret head 22. In this case, the revolving center shaft of the turret head 22 is orthogonal with the axial line of the work W held on the main shaft base 6 of the main shaft base table 3 above, so the revolving direction of the turret head 22 becomes in the tangent direction of the work W and the positional dispersement by the revolving of the turret head 22 is generated in the revolving direction. So that, the positional dispersement of the turret head 22 becomes in the tangent direction of the work W and the positional dispersion of the turret head 22 in the radial direction of the work W giving effect on the work working accuracy is reduced. Consequently, the working accuracy can be improved.
