    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a continuous casting method for manufacturing a cast slab, in which the shape of the short side of the cast slab is measured or predicted and the bulging volume of the cast slab is controlled on the basis of the measured or predicted value.
      SOLUTION: In the invented continuous casting method for manufacturing the cast slab, a measurement or prediction is made of the profile line of the cross-sectional shape of the short side of the cast slab extracted from a casting mold. A line connecting both ends of the profile line is defined as the reference line. The average deformation volume of the short side of the cast slab is determined on the basis of the reference line and profile line. If the average deformation volume is above the upper limit, one or more of the following control steps is or are performed: a step of increasing the inclination angle of the short side of the casting mold in reference to the casting direction, a step of increasing the volume of cooling water in a cooling zone just below the casting mold, or a step of decreasing the casting speed. If the average deformation volume is below the lower limit, either or both of the following control steps is or are performed: a step of decreasing the inclination angle of the short side of the casting mold in reference to the casting direction, or a step of decreasing the volume of cooling water in the cooling zone just below the casting mold.
