    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a loss of electrical power and eliminate a phenomenon of unbalanced state of 3-phase by a method wherein a transformer for an electrical furnace having extending electrodes connected to a rear end of each of graphite electrodes and the extending electrodes applied as a secondary winding and an electric collecting short-circuited device for making a short-circuit of extending 3-phase electrodes to each other is arranged at an upper part of the transformer. SOLUTION: A transformer 24 for an electric furnace constructed such that a water-cooled electrical conductive pipe 26 cooperatively connected to an upper part of each of graphite electrodes is applied as a secondary winding is arranged on a fourth floor 28. An electricity collecting short-circuit device 27 for making a relative short-circuit state of extending electrodes of 3-phase is arranged at an upper part of the transformer 24 for the electric furnace. Then, the electricity collecting short-circuit device 27 can be raised or lowered by a rack part 29 cooperatively connected to an upper part of the extending electrode water- cooled electrical conductive pipe part 26 and an electrode ascending or descending driving device 31 installed at a fifth floor 30 in response to a melting state in the furnace and an operating state of the furnace. With such an arrangement as above, a loss of electrical power can be reduced, an unbalanced state of 3-phase can be eliminated and a responding characteristic of the electrode ascending or descending speed can be made fast.

    • PURPOSE:To suppress fusion loss due to melted metal and to obtain furnace wall electrodes which do not need a cooling mechanism by passing one or more high melting point conductive materials molded in a rod state through the wall of a DC arc furnace composed of an indeterminate form refractory material, and using the material as an electrode of the side in contact with the melting metal. CONSTITUTION:A supporting plate 3a in which a plurality of rodlike electrodes 5 are stood in a furnace bottom electrode mounting hole 4 is secured to an iron sheath 3 by fittings 9. An indeterminate form refractory material 10 such as magnesia, etc., is filled in the hole 4, and the material 10 is pounded in a state that the electrodes 5 are buried by ramming or applying vibration thereto. As a result, the plurality of electrodes 5 are passed through the wall to be disposed in the hole 4. High melting point conductive materials are employed as the electrodes 5 to obtain electrodes having excellent durability. The materials are satisfactorily draped with the material 10 filled in the hole 4, and no gap for causing intrusion of melted material, etc., is formed between the electrodes 5 and the material 10. Further, since heat resistance is excellent as compared with metal, it is not necessary to cool the rear ends of the electrodes 5.

    • PURPOSE:To improve the quality of a cast slab and the working ratio of the equipment by arranging an electromagnetic coil having odd pieces of teeth with three pieces or more and also enabling connection by selecting among DC, AC or AC and DC superimposing power sources to each coil. CONSTITUTION:One pair of electromagnetic coils are arranged on the back of two pieces of long wall side plates 20 for a mold and three pieces of the teeth parts 27A, 27B, 27C of a core 27 are projected to the long wall side and in a yoke part, each the coil 26 is wound. Then, the center teeth part 27B is arranged at injecting part 24 of the submerged nozzle 17 and both end side teeth parts 27A, 27C are arranged at flowing part of the molten metal. At the time of connecting by selecting each of among DC, AC or AC and DC superimposing power sources to the coil 26, the main magnetic flux penetrating part forms the intense magnetic field range 25, to execute effective electromagnetic stirring and electromagnetic brake action. In this way, the floating of inclusion is promoted and the quality of cast slab is improved and the working ratio of casting equipment by continuing of the casting operation, etc., is improved.
