    • PURPOSE:To perform edging without causing a buckling of strip by installing an edger consisting of slantable vertical rolls and a looper device between the stands of mills at the time of rolling a strip. CONSTITUTION:A vertical mill 13 and a looper device 5 are installed between rolling stands 1, 1' for a strip S. Vertical rolls 12, 12 of the mill 13 are held by an inner housing 15 which is held by an outer housing 16, and the inner housing 15 is also held by the housing 16 together with the rolls 12, 12 so that they are slantable in the A, B direction along the transporting direction of the strip S.     • PURPOSE:To permit stable cross rolling of a strip by making the angle of inclination of a strip in contact with the vertical rolls of an edger with respect to the horizontal line larger than the angle of inclination of the vertical rolls with respect to the perpendicular. CONSTITUTION:The strip S is lifted and supported by the rolls of a looper S. A fluid pressure cylinder 5b is actuated to lower the roll 5a of an upper press roll device 5 to press the strip S downward by the roll 5a. The vertical roll 4a is inclined with perpendicular and the strip S is cross rolled by the vertical roll 4a under the condition theta1>=thetae. The above-mentioned theta1, thetae are respectively the angle of inclination of the strip S in the part in contact with the roll 4a with respect to the horizontal line and the angle of inclination of the vertical roll 4a with respect to the perpendicular. If the cross rolling is executed under the condition theta1=thetae, the stable rolling is executed as the ascending and descending of the roll are obviated. If the cross rolling is executed under the condition theta1>thetae, the strip S receives the upward force in the contact part with the vertical roll 4a but is pressed down by the roll 5a and therefore, the strip is kept in the state of receiving the 7 upward force without ascending and the stable rolling is executed.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce the edge drop and crown of a sheet and to improve the accuracy of its width by subjecting a hot strip to high and low rolling reductions in the width directions at the front and rear stage sides of a mill and applying tensions to the strip respectively. CONSTITUTION:A hot strip S1 is subjected to high rolling reduction in its width direction by a vertical rolling stand 2 placed at the front stage side, in a state of making the peripheral speed of a work roll 31 of the 1st stand 11 lower than that of a work roll 32 of the 2nd stand 12 and enhancing the tension of strip S1. In this way, the buckling strength of hot strip S1 is enhanced, and the rolling reduction in its width reduction is increased to 2-3 times a conventional one. Therefore, the sheet crown control is easily performed, and the adjusting amount of final sheet-width is enlarged. Further, the tension of hot strip S2 is increased by making the peripheral speed of a work roll 37 of stand 17 larger than that of a work roll 36 of stand 16, and the strip S2 is properly subjected to rolling reduction in its width direction by a vertical rolling stand 22 at the rear stage side. At that time, the buckling strength of strip S2 is improved, and the width rolling reduction can be performed. Accordingly, the edge drop and crown of a sheet is remarkably reduced, and the accuracy of the width of product is improved.
