    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a railroad vehicle structure, manufactured by connecting a frame with a side structure or a side structure with a roof structure by mechanical fastening means, such as riveting, capable of widening a compartment space and restraining an increase in working man-hours for setting a cover covering the top of the mechanical fastening means.
SOLUTION: In an extruded shape constituting a connection portion between the frame and side structure or a connection portion between the side structure and roof structure, an end of a second face plate 44 and a portion of a first face plate 42 nearer to the central portion in the width direction are joined by an end rib 48 in such a state that the end of the first face plate 42 protrudes from the end of the second face plate 44 in the width direction 250. The plate thickness of the end of the first face plate 42 is reduced by a thickness corresponding to the thickness of the top of a rivet. Moreover, a step is formed in the thickness direction of the extruded shape 41 by the same thickness as that of the first face plate for integral formation so that the first face plate of a mated extruded shape connecting the end of the second face plate 44 is locked, thus achieving a wide compartment space by limiting a cover.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle structure capable of providing required strength against a load and vibration in the vertical direction while preventing an increase in the weight of the structure.
SOLUTION: A side structure 2 and a frame 7 are connected to each other through an L-shaped fitting 10 at a doorway 6 of the rolling stock structure 20 constituting the side structure 2 by a hollow structural angle. The L-shaped fitting 10 is composed of a first plate-like joint part 10a connecting a vehicle outside face plate 8 with a vehicle inside face plate 9 and a second joint part plate 10b abutting and connecting a part from the vehicle outside face plate 8 in the first joint part 10a and the frame 7 to each other. The thickness of the second joint part plate 10b is larger than that of the vehicle outside face plate 8. Consequently, it is possible to ensure the required strength against a load in the vertical direction without increasing the thickness of the vehicle outside face plate 8, that is, by svehiclecely increasing the weight of the structure.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle body capable of absorbing energy generated at a collision with the end of the vehicle body of a railway vehicle.
SOLUTION: This railway vehicle is composed of a rigid member 15 disposed along the circumferential direction of the vehicle on the end of the vehicle body, a rib member 16 disposed along the circumferential direction at a position rearward from the rigid member 15, a rib member 17 disposed along the longitudinal direction of the vehicle body and connecting both the rigid member 15 and the rib member 16, and an outer panel 18 covering them. The longitudinal direction of the rib member 17 corresponds to the longitudinal direction of the vehicle body. The rib member 17 is constituted of two flanges 17c, 17d and a web 17b connecting the two flanges, and the side having the web 17b is welded to the outer panel 18 by fillet-welding. A notch 21 opened to the edge of the flange is formed at the flange at the center of the longitudinal direction of the rib member 17. When a collision load is applied, the notch 21 is valley-folded, so that the rib member is bent toward the direction opposite to the side to which the outer panel 18 is attached, so that the collision load can be absorbed sufficiently since the outer panel 18 does not interfere with the buckling of the rib member 17.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a good vehicle riding comfort by improving the bending rigidity of a body structure while suppressing mass increase of a body structure as much as possible.
SOLUTION: A strength plate 7 is applied to a vehicle inner side of a roof body structure 1 of the central part in the longitudinal direction of a railway rolling stock body structure 10 composed of the roof body structure 1, a side body structure 2, an underframe 3, and an end body structure 4. The applying range of the strength plate 7 in the longitudinal direction of the railway rolling stock body structure 10 is between two body bolsters 6, and the applying range of the roof body structure 1 in the right and left direction is nearly half of the length in the right and left direction of the roof body structure. Plate thickness of the strength plate 7 becomes thick as the vertical height of the roof body structure 1 becomes high. Since the deformation of the roof body structure 1 of the central part in the longitudinal direction of the railway rolling stock body structure 1 generating a large deformation is suppressed in such structure, the bending rigidity of the railway rolling structure body structure 10 can be efficiently improved. Since bending vibration in vertical direction of the railway rolling stock can be suppressed, excellent ride quality performance can be provided.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rail rolling stock capable of absorbing impact energy.
SOLUTION: In a body of the rail rolling stock comprising a hollow shape 40, an annealed hollow shape is used for the hollow shape 40 constituting an end of a base frame 30. A longitudinal direction of the hollow shape 40 is same as that of the body. The base frame 30 is formed by arranging a plurality of the hollow shapes in a width direction, and joining them by friction agitating joint. When impact load is applied, the hollow shape of an end is deformed in the form of a bellows, and impact force is absorbed. At this moment, the impact force is also applied on a friction agitating joint part, but since it is the friction agitating joint, cracks do not occur, and the hollow shape is not prevented from deforming into bellows.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent stress concentration by improving a coupling structure of an extrusion member, and to reduce weight of a railway rolling stock structural body.
SOLUTION: The two friction stir welded extrusion members 100 and 120 form a welding surface 140 of a coupling part by butting the welding end parts. The first extrusion member 100 has a projecting part 110 projecting from an upper surface 102 of a flat plate part on a side into which a tool 50 for friction stir welding is inserted. A side surface 112 of the projecting part 110 is connected to the upper surface 102 of the flat plate part by a small circular arc R
      2 and a large circular arc R
3 . In the same way, also the second extrusion member 120 has the same structure. The tool 50 for friction stir welding has a small diameter part 52 at a distal end part and performs fiction stir welding by aligning the center of the small diameter part 52 to the welding surface 140 (b). In the coupling part of the welded members 100 and 120, an upper surface forms a flat surface 150 and burrs B
1 are left at both the end parts. The burrs B
1 are cut and removed to complete the coupling part (c). A connecting part is connected by a circular arc R
3 having a large curvature and does not generate stress concentration. Since plate thickness of the coupling part is increased and the flat plate part is made the smallest, the weight of this railway rolling stock structural body is reduced.
