    • PURPOSE:To maintain a high sound quality, and simultaneously, to execute a substantial data compression by increasing a sampling frequency when a sound exists, and simultaneously, switching the sampling frequency, when the sound does not exist, to a low frequency. CONSTITUTION:An analog sound signal Vin is converted to a digital input signal Din by a sampling clock Fs1 of the frequency six-fold or above that of the cut-off frequency of a low-pass filter LPF1 in an analog/digital converting circuit ADC, and a signal encoded by a digital comparator COMP is made into a bit string signal by a delay group composed of a shift register RG1. When a carrier detection CD detects the fact that the sound does not exist in the bit string of the shift register RG1 two times or above, a changeover signal C2 is supplied to a sampling clock generating circuit SCG, and the sampling clock fs1 is switched to a sampling clock fs2 of the lower frequency. Thus, the high sound quality is maintained, and simultaneously, the substantial data compression can be executed.

    • PURPOSE:To extract a character string when characters intersect with each other, the character intersects with a graphic or they are overlapped, by repeating the extraction of a short segment and the extension of an extracted area until the short segment is not present and extracting segment groups in the extracted area as the character string. CONSTITUTION:A first extracted area enclosing the circumference of the short segment is set by defining the short segment initially called from a coordinate string data storing part 14 and the unextracted segment included in this extracted area is extracted from the short segments stored in the coordinate string data storing part 14. The first extracted area is extended in a direction including the newly extracted segment and set as a second extracted area. Then, the segment in the second extracted area is extracted as a character candidate, the second extracted area is set as the first extracted area to extract other unextracted segment included in the first extracted area. Thereby, the short segment considered to be the character is extracted from drawing information including the character and the character string can be extracted from the arrangement of the respective extracted segments.
