    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect ignition information (an ignition timing or peak creating timing) regardless of the combustion form of a diesel engine with high accuracy even if a cylinder pressure sensor is not highly sensitive, and to perform feedback control on devices to be controlled in conjunction with engine control, on the basis of the detected ignition information. SOLUTION: An ECU7 calculates an ignition timing by which the heat generation rate exceeds an ignition determination value when combustion has a sharp gradient in initial rise of the heat generation rate such as in diffusion combustion. Highly accurate detection of the ignition timing is therefore possible even if gain deviation and offset deviation occur in the cylinder pressure sensor 88. As a result, an injection start timing can be feedback-controlled with high accuracy based on the ignition timing. Further, the peak creating timing of the heat generation rate is calculated when combustion has a moderate gradient in initial rise of the heat generation rate such as in pre-mixture combustion. Consequently, the peak generating timing can be detected with high accuracy even if gain deviation and offset deviation occur in the cylinder pressure sensor 88.
