    • PURPOSE:To geneate an interpolated image with high accuracy based on multiple viewpoint images. CONSTITUTION:An epipola plane image (EPI) is generated by arranging lines on the same position in sequence of a viewpoint based on images from plural viewpoints. The line to be interpolated is inserted to each line, and corresponding points a1, b1, and c1 are detected by detecting a straight line. At this time, a score is given to each picture element through which the straight line passes corresponding to the number of straight lines detected from remarked picture elements, and as for the picture element in which the correspondence of a picture element which a low score and one with a high score is overlapped, the correspondence with the low point is eliminated. The point on the interpolated line of the straight line consisting of those points is set as the point generated by interpolation. However, the interpolation is performed preferentially starting from the correspondence with the high score by performing interpolation according to the correspondence with the low score in advance and then the interpolated image can be generated.
