    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cost-efficient thermal head with excellent workability in production, having a heating resistor layer made of glass mainly composed of zinc oxide and formed by calcining a paste containing a conductive substance and a dispersion preventive substance, thereby preventing variation in resistance values of a heating resistor and improving product quality.SOLUTION: The thermal head includes: an insulating substrate; an electrode layer formed in a predetermined pattern on the insulating substrate; the heating resistor layer formed on the electrode layer; and a protective layer covering the electrode layer and the heating resistor. In the thermal head, the heating resistor layer is made of the glass mainly composed of zinc oxide and formed by calcining the paste containing the conductive substance and the dispersion preventive substance.

    • PURPOSE:To improve the display contrast of a liquid crystal display element and, at the same time, to eliminate the need of rubbing treatment by using a vertically oriented film having a water repelling property as the oriented film of the element and nematic liquid crystal which is negative in dielectric anisotropy and added with a dichroic coloring matter adjusted to black color as the liquid crystal. CONSTITUTION:This liquid crystal display element is constituted in such a way that a substrate 1 mounted with a thin film transistor 4 having a transparent electrode and covered with an oriented film 13 including the transistor 4 and another substrate formed of a transparent electrode 14 and oriented film 15 of its inner surface and a polarizing plate on its outer surface are stuck to each other with a prescribed gap in between and liquid crystal is enclosed into the space between the substrates 1 and 2. A vertical oriented film having a water repelling property is used for the oriented films 13 and 15 and nematic liquid crystal 3 which is negative in dielectric anisotropy and added with a dichroic coloring matter adjusted to black color is used as the liquid crystal. Therefore, the display contrast is improved and the need of rubbing treatment can be eliminated.
