    • PURPOSE: To improve the visual recognizability and the durability of a liquid crystal dazzle preventing mirror by interposing an inert liquid between a liquid crystal element and a reflecting mirror substrate when a polarization control element is sealed between them.
      CONSTITUTION: A film-shaped polarization control element 2 is interposed between one substrate outside surface of a liquid crystal element 1 and one surface of a reflecting mirror substrate 3, and an inert liquid 4 is interposed between the liquid crystal element 1 and the polarization control element 2 and between the polarization control element 2 and the reflecting mirror substrate 3, and the polarization control element 2 is pressed between the liquid crystal element 1 and the reflecting mirror substrate 3. The liquid crystal element 1 and the reflecting mirror substrate 3 are sealed by a seal agent 5 to seal in the polarization control element 2 and the inert liquid 4.

    • PURPOSE: To obtain a liquid crystal element that can control the transmissivity of infrared rays electrically by preparing a liquid crystal layer of liquid crystal and an infrared-ray absorbing dye having dichromatic ratio.
      CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal 5 mixed with 0.5wt% infrared-ray absorbing dye 6 is injected into an internal space formed between two glass plates. When the liquid crystal element thus formed is driven under the driving conditions of frequency 64 Hz, square wave and applied voltage 24 Vp-p, the transmissivity of infrared rays changes by turning on or off, and the maximum transmissivity is about 35% at wavelength 1000 nm when on, and the minimum transmissivity is about 20% when off. By changing applied voltage between 0W24V, transmissivity can be changed between 20% and 35%. When this liquid crystal is applied to window materials of a car, the transmissivity of infrared rays is reduced to prevent rise of temperature in summer, and the transmissivity of infrared rays is increased to prevent lowering of temperature. Thus, energies for a cooler or a heater can be saved.

    • PURPOSE: To prevent intrusion of an adhesive to the depth between superposed faces by using the adhesive of 300W10000 poises in viscosity as an adhesive that sticks a liquid crystal element and a reflecting mirror substrate.
      CONSTITUTION: The liquid crystal element 1 and reflecting mirror substrate 3 are superposed to make a quater-wavelength plate 2 and above-mentioned mirror face 32 inside, and the liquid crystal 12 is sealed by an adhesive 14 between substrates 11, 13. An adhesive 5 is applied to the peripheral part in superposed state, and a two-pack mixing type adhesive of epoxy group 300W10000 poises in viscosity is used as the adhesive 5. After applying the adhesive 5, a load is applied vertically to a press die 8 through a rubber member 81 and fixed. As the viscosity of the adhesive is higher than 300 poises, the width of intrusion of the adhesive into stuck faces is small, and lowering in visibility of the liquid crystal glare-preventing glass due to the adhesive is prevented. As its viscosity is less than 10000 poises, its coating property is high, and the parallelism of the liquid crystal element and reflecting mirror substrate becomes satisfactory.

    • PURPOSE:To eliminate the movement of spacers which is caused by vibration, to improve the durability, and to enable the sufficient vibration of an outside substrate and the sufficient removal of liquid drops by fixing the spacers for holding a liquid crystal charged gap to either of inside and outside substrates. CONSTITUTION:For the liquid drop removal, a specific AC current is supplied to a piezoelectric element 20 and a diaphragm 16 is vibrated with an ultrasonic wave at a specific frequency. This vibration is transmitted to the inside glass substrate 10 through an adhesive 18 for diaphragm fixation and also sent to the outside glass substrate 36 through a sealing agent 32 for a liquid crystal cell. The spherical spacers 38 are adhered only to an oriented film 34, i.e. the substrate 10, so the substrates 10 and 26 can be vibrated almost independently of each other. The vibration caused by the piezoelectric element 20 is transmitted to the outside glass substrate 26, which is vibrated sufficiently to efficiently remove liquid drops sticking on the surface of the substrate 26. Further, the crystal state of liquid crystal 30 is varied by turning on and off the application of a voltage between transparent electrodes 24 and 28 to switch the nonglaring state of the mirror.
