    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat type display device capable of easily and precisely assembling a spacer when installing it, with less possibility of damaging a metal back.
      SOLUTION: In a metal sheet 120, a plurality of fine holes 122 incorporating phosphor 111 are formed, and a black oxide film is formed on the surface on a translucent substrate 111 side for acting as a light absorbing layer 121. The metal sheet 120 is provided on the translucent substrate 111. In a metal back 130, a plurality of recesses 123 is provided on the surface on a rear surface substrate 1 side of the metal sheet 120, with an opening 131 formed corresponding to a prescribed region including the recess 123. The metal back 130 is laminated on the metal sheet 120 to constitute an acceleration electrode of a two-layer laminate structure. A spacer 30 is inserted in the recess 123 on the metal sheet 120 which is exposed in the opening 131 of the metal back 130.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-reliability image display device at a low cost by preventing deformation of the image display device without requesting high mechanical accuracy of a spacer.
      SOLUTION: Heights of plate-like spacers at their longitudinal center position are measured, and the spacers are arranged in the descending order of the measurement values of their heights. By measuring the heights of the plate-like spacers at multiple points instead of the longitudinal center positions, the average values thereof may be used. The plate-like spacers may be arranged in the descending order of the average values, and the arrangement order may be adjusted so as to satisfy a predetermined condition determined for that state. Columnar spacers may be so arranged that the distance between a front plate and a back plate is monotonously changed in a predetermined direction.
