    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a field emission display comprising a gate electrode plate of strut structure requiring no support for a negative electrode plate, a positive electrode plate and a gate electrode plate by struts of more than necessary at jointing process, with simplified manufacturing process of the field emission, capable of increasing productivity.
      SOLUTION: A first board having a first electrode and a plurality of emission projection arrays formed on its first surface and a second board having a second electrode and a plurality of fluorescent layers formed on its second surface are arranged so that the second surface corresponds to the first surface, and a gate electrode plate of strut structure is arranged at a position keeping a certain fixed distance between the first board and the second board, and the gate electrode plate of strut structure comprises a plurality of gate electrodes and holes. Thus, when a potential difference is generated between the first electrode and the second electrode, electrons pass through the gate electrodes of the gate electrode plate, are accelerated, pass through the holes, and collide against the fluorescent layers.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem wherein it is difficult to control the clearance between a front substrate and a back substrate inside an effective screen and outside the effective screen in a flat display, where electron sources are formed in a matrix-form inside a vacuum outer envelope.
      SOLUTION: Spacers 12 in the inside of an effective surface are arranged in the inside 6 of the effective screen, spacers 13 in the outside the effective surface are arranged at the outside of the effective screen, at the same time, and the clearance between the front substrate 2 and the back substrate 1 in a peripheral part is controlled by the spacers 13 at the outside of the effective surface. In this way, various problems, such as charging of the spacers 12 accompanying nonuniformity of the clearance between the front substrate 2 and the back substrate 1 can be solved.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spacer which suppresses the scanning distortion of an electron beam and prevents the decrease in the display quality of a viewing surface; and to provide an electron emission display equipped with the same.
      SOLUTION: The spacer is provided between a first substrate 10 and a second substrate 20 constituting a vacuum container, and has a mother body 310, a resistance layer 321 formed on the side of the mother body 310, a secondary electron emission preventive layer 323 formed on the resistance layer 321 and a diffusion preventive layer 322 formed between the resistance layer 321 and the secondary electron emission preventive layer 323 and preventing the interlayer diffusion. Thereby, the secondary electron emission preventive layer prevents emission of secondary electrons when electrons collide on the spacer; the resistance layer transfers electricity charged on the spacer; and the diffusion preventive layer blocks the mutual diffusion generated between the resistance layer and the secondary electron emission preventive layer when heat is imparted and prevents the interfacial reaction therebetween.
