    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce inertia moment from an internal combustion engine to the upstream side of a lock-up clutch and increase rotation speed of an input shaft by high response when starting and accelerating by releasing the lock-up clutch.
      SOLUTION: In this torque converter for the automobile in which output shaft torque of the internal combustion engine is converted and is inputted into a transmission, a turbine is fixed to a torque converter cover forming a hydraulic fluid chamber to connect with the input shaft of the transmission directly, and an impeller arranged by opposing to the turbine is directly connected with an output shaft of the internal combustion engine.

    • PURPOSE:To contrive reduction of blade vibration while facilitating manufacture by improving a shape of each blade end of a pump impeller and a turbine runner, in a torque converter having no core in a part where each blade of the pump impeller, turbine runner and a stator is concentrated. CONSTITUTION:A coreless converter is provided with a pump impeller 2 connected to a converter cover 1 by inputting power from an engine, turbine runner 4 arranged in an opposed position to this impeller 2 to connect an input shaft of a transmission, not shown, through a turbine hub 3 and a stator 6 arranged in an internal diameter part interposed by both these pump impeller 2 and turbine runner 4. In a part where respective blades are concentrated, blade ends are placed only adjacent to each other to provide no core. In the constitution thus obtained, each blade end of the pump turbine 2 and the turbine runner 4 is formed into linear blade ends 2c, 4c, connecting external side blade end points 2a, 4a to internal side blade end points 2b, 4b of these pump impeller and turbine runner by a straight line, to contrive reduction of blade vibration.

    • A torque converter includes a coaxially mounted pump impeller, turbine, and stator, each of which includes an outer shell, an inner shell, and vanes extending between the outer shell and the inner shell having edges which define an inlet and outlet. The pump impeller outlet is proximate to the turbine inlet, the turbine outlet is proximate to the stator inlet, and the stator outlet is proximate to the pump impeller inlet. The outer and inner shells cooperate to define outer and inner toroidal surfaces, which together define a hollow toroidal hydraulic fluid circulation path. The ratio between the axial extent and the radical extent of a section of the outer toroidal surface is less than approximately 0.9. The axial distance between the general axial position of the edges of the stator vanes which define the stator inlet and the axial position of the edge of the stator inner shell in the direction of the stator inlet is substantially greater than zero, and the stator vanes which define the stator inlet extend more towards the direction of the turbine outlet than does the edge of the stator inner shell in the direction of the stator inlet.

    • PURPOSE:To effectively perform the torsional-torque absorption between a flywheel on an input shaft and the front cover of a torque converter by radially interposing a leaf spring on which the direction of width is directed in the direction of axis center. CONSTITUTION:A flywheel 3 is fixed onto the top edge part of a crankshaft 2, and the boss part 7 at the center of the front cover 6 of a torque converter 5 is freely inserted into the center hole 8 of the flywheel 3, and the front cover 6 is connected to the flywheel 3 through a joint part 4. Said joint part 4 is constituted of a leaf spring 50 which has a nearly rectangular form and is arranged in nearly radial form. The leaf spring 50 has an elliptical hole 51 at the upper edge and a circular hole 52 at the lower edge, and a group of springs is formed by superposing a plurality of the leaf springs. One edge of each group is connected to the flywheel 3 side by a pin 53 inserted into the elliptical hole 51, and the other edge is connected to the front cover 6 side by a pin 54 inserted into the hole 52.
