    • PURPOSE:To miniaturize the starter by reducing an axial distance between a starter motor and an overrunning clutch. CONSTITUTION:The pinion shifter 50 for the starter is set up between the clutch 20 and a magnet switch 30. The pinion shifter has a drive lever 51 and a drive spring 52. The drive spring 52 is wound on the pin 51d of the drive lever 51, and the one end 52a of the drive spring is bent and inserted into the hole of a fulcrum 51b of the drive lever 51. When the magnet switch 30 is conducted, an end section 52b is pulled by a hook 32 to rock the drive lever 51, and a pinion shaft 41 is moved to the left to connect the pinion 22 to the ring gear of an engine. The motor 10 is conducted at the same time, and the revolving torque of the motor 10 is transmitted to the engine. The switch 30 can be adjoined to the motor 10 because the end section 52b is folded back.

    • PURPOSE:To miniaturize the starter by disposing a drive lever, an intermediate section thereof is supported rockably between a pinion shaft and a magnet switch. CONSTITUTION:A connecting lever 6 connects the V-shaped bent sections of drive springs at one ends of each drive lever 1, 2 and the connecting section 7a of the plunger 7 of the magnet switch 9, and is rocked around the lever pins 4 of the drive levers 1, 2 in response to the movement of the plunger 7. A lever ratio of the drive levers 1, 2 is selected properly, a stroke of the plunger is shortened, and a terminal bolt 17 is projected from the rear section of the magnet switch 9, thus obtaining the small-sized magnet switch miniaturizing the starter.

    • PURPOSE:To shorten the axial length of an armature by extending conductors, laid in double layers through slots in the periphery of an armature iron core, separately toward the radial center along the end face of an insulated iron core, and by connecting them to commutator bars. CONSTITUTION:Armature coils 2 comprising lower coils 2a and upper coils 2b are fitted in slots 4 formed in the axial direction in the periphery of an armature core 3. A brush holder 91 for a brush 93 is installed through an insulation board 90 on the internal surface of an end-frame 10. A commutator 8 on the right end of a rotating shaft 20 comprises a commutator holder 81 and commutator bars 82. The brush 93 is pressed with a spring 94. The lower and upper coils 2a, 2b are connected to inside and outside conductors 2A, 2B, on the end surface of the commutator 8 side, and are shifted by 1/2 coil pitch in the opposite directions each other. On the other end of the core 3, the lower coil 2a is connected aslant to the upper coil 2b. Thus, the axial length of the armature core 3 is shortened, contributing to cutting the size and weight, and increasing capacity.

    • PURPOSE:To provide a starter having a simple construction with easy manufacture and maintenance and also capable of reducing axial view required area of a device. CONSTITUTION:A direct-acting shaft 51 is actuated in nearly radial direction if an electromagnetic switch 5 disposed adjacent to the rear portion of a motor 2 is electrified to energize the base end of a pinion transfer mechanism 6. Then, the pinion actuating means (arm) 64 of a pinion transfer mechanism 6 disposed axially on an outside of the iron core of the armature of the motor 2 is actuated axially and an one way clutch 4 and a pinion gear 3 are advanced directly by the tip end of a pinion actuating means 64 or through the pinion actuating means 64 and the pinion gear 3 is moshed with a ring gear 30. If electrification to the electromagnetic switch is interrupted, the pinion transfer mechanism 6 and the direct-acting shaft 51 are returned by a return spring 7 and the pinion gear 3 is retreated and the pinion gear 3 is detached from the ring gear 30.
