CONSTITUTION:A drive lever 1 made of resin is supported by a housing 4 via a lever holder 9 and makes contact with both a magnet switch 7 at one end of said lever 1 and a clutch 5 at the other end thereof. A plurality of independently formed grease holding grooves are formed on both the contact part of the drive lever 1 with which the clutch 5 makes contact, and filled with lubricating grease. Furthermore, a plurality of grooves are formed on the rubbing face of the clutch 5 with said lever 1, and filled with grease. Both the entire friction faces of the driver lever 1 and the clutch 5 can then be lubricated with grease, if a starter is immersed, and no grease flows outside because the grooves are formed independently from each other, so that due to the high grease holding effect, the durability and life of the starter may be improved and elongated.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent shocks upon meshing between a pinion and a ring gear, from being transmitted to an end frame, in a starter for internal-combustion engines, by disposing a resilient member between an armature shaft and the end frame. CONSTITUTION:Upon energization of an electromagnetic clutch 12, a lever 13 is pulled to advance a pinion 3a through an overrunning clutch 3, and therefore, a starter motor 20 is driven just before a ring gear 18 is made in contact with the pinion 3a. Then, an armature shaft 2a is rotated, therefore the rotation is transmitted to the pinion 3a through a drive shaft 6, a helical spline 6a and a clutch 3. Further, when the pinion 3a is made into contact with the ring gear 18, axial torque is generated to move the shaft 6 in the axial direction, but shocks are absorbed by the elastic deformation of a rubber 10 disposed between a stepped part 2a in the armature shaft 2 and a cylindrical section 5a in an end frame 5. Accordingly, it is possible to prevent the end frame 5 from being broken.

Accordingly, the motor M and the magnet switch MS can be simulaneously fixed to a housing 3, improving assembling properties. Also, a gap between the motor yoke 4c and the switch yoke 4a can be eliminated and, further, since a magnetic path on the border part between both yokes can be commonly used, the distance betwen the shafts of the motor M and the switch MS can be reduced, making a starter as a whole light and small.

With this construction, relative movements in an axial direction and a rotary direction between the common mounting component 12 and the vibration proof material 22 are prevented. Accordingly, a driving shaft 26 and a shaft 56 to be driven are prevented from generating discrepancy between their centers.
