      CONSTITUTION: An output shaft 14 of an engine 10 and a main shaft 16 of a transmission 12 are arranged longitudinally of a vehicle. An auxiliary shaft 18 disposed parallel to the main shaft 16 is provided with a pinion gear 24 meshing with a ring gear 26. And the ring gear 26 is rotatably disposed centering around an output shaft 28 and provided with a planet gear system accelerating mechanism 30. The right end of the output shaft 28 is connected to a final unit 42 for rear wheels, and the left end of the output shaft 28 to a final unit 54 for front wheels.

    • PURPOSE:To restrict an increase in the total length of a transmission gear so as to avoid any alteration in the structure of a car frame by arranging an intermediate shaft and an auxiliary shaft in parallel to an input shaft and a main power shaft respectively and an auxiliary transmission mechanism in parallel to a main transmission mechanism. CONSTITUTION:An auxiliary transmission mechanism 37 is arranged closer to a clutch 2 in parallel to a main transmission mechanism 36. Consequently, the length of the transmission gears in the axial direction is hardly increased except the size of a reduction gear 41 caused by additional installation of an auxiliary transmission mechanism 37. Accordingly, an excessively small clearance between a suspension mechanism and a transmission gear 3 can never happen even in the case of F/F automobile, duly requiring no amendment of design in this part so that any basic change in the transmission gear 3 and the body frame structure can be avoided.

Because of the center impeller type support, the meshing noise on 4-wheel drive can be reduced, and the service life of the gear can be prolonged.
