    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reduction gear, an electric power steering device and a worm which can reduce the generation of noise over a long period of time.
      SOLUTION: In an engagement area A, the helical tooth bottom 62 of a worm 20 has a helically extending release groove 64 for a lubricant. The release groove 64 is formed in an intermediate position A1 in a worm shaft direction 65 on the tooth bottom 62 of the worm 20. Buffering material particles of the lubricant can be prevented from being crushed between the tooth tip surface 63 of the worm wheel 21 and the tooth bottom 62 of the worm 20 in the engagement area A.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gear and gear drive unit which sufficiently prepares an oil film between teeth surfaces of the gear rotating at high speed, prevents generation of pitching, abrasion, and scoring, and improves its durability by preventing a temperature rise and wear.
      SOLUTION: A large number of fine recessed dents are arranged on the tooth surface at random, an average area ratio of the dents on the tooth surface having the dents is set up to be within a range of 5 to 20%, and a parameter Rymax of surface roughness of the tooth surface having the dents is set to be within a range of 0.4 to 1.0 μm. Thus, the gear acquires a longer life in spite of an extremely thin condition of the oil film at low-viscosity and thin lubrication so that the tooth surface has an effective oil film forming capability.
