Acceleration of the moving body 5 is made equal to the conversion value in a moving direction of angular acceleration of a feed motor 2. Namely, the inertia reaction force of the moving body 5 exerted on the first feed screw 3 is reduced to zero, resilient deformation is decreased, and an apparent rigidity value is set to infinity. Since stability of a control system is increased, this constitution enables improvement of response through increase of a gain, and enables improvement of positioning precision during high response operation.

Since the diameter of the knife 1 becomes (X +Y ) from these coordinates, the actual depth of cut S can be calculated by S=(X -Y ) -Y. By comparing this value with the preset referential depth of cut, the knife 1 and the workpiece 3 are relatively moved in the Y direction so that these two values agree with each other. By this method, a constantly definite depth of cut is maintained even if the diameter of the knife 1 is varied because of wear.
