    • A method of customizing a transmission (232) for a particular vehicular application, comprising: obtaining a partially programmed transmission control module (234) comprising standard calibration parameters (136) that configure the transmission control module (234) and the transmission (232) for a range of applications of the transmission (232), and programming the partially programmed transmission control module (234) to obtain a programmed transmission control module (234) that includes custom calibration parameters (138) that configure the transmission control module (234) and the transmission (232) for the particular vehicular application, wherein the standard calibration parameters (136) and the custom calibration parameters (138) are stored on a memory device (236) externally couplable to the transmission control module (234) so that the memory device (236) is not affixed to or otherwise integrated with the transmission control module (234), the memory device (236) being couplable to the transmission control module (234) by means of a connector (630, 710, 810) which permits the removal of the memory device (236) from the transmission (232) for programming and/or replacement.

    • A first head (61) connected to a shift and select shaft (20) via a torsion spring (64) rotates a second head (62) supported by a third-gear/fourth-gear fork shaft (52) pursuant to a select operation of a gear stick upon a reverse shift operation, a rotation force of the second head (62) is transmitted to a third head (63) integrally formed with a fifth-gear/sixth-gear fork shaft (53), and as a result thereof, the fifth-gear/sixth-gear fork shaft (53) moves in a direction parallel to the axis thereof. Consequently, a synchromesh mechanism operates and rotation of an input shaft is slowed. In a case wherein an operation speed of the gear stick is high, an amount of rotation of the shift and select shaft (20) is absorbed by the torsion spring (64), reducing an operation load.
