    • An improved hydraulic pump structure for hydraulic systems which require a plurality of rotary pumps has a pump casing assembly (20) consisting of a plurality of pump casing elements (23-29) which are fastened together in abutting relationship to define a first pump cavity (54) and a second pump cavity (55a) with aligned drive shaft holes (56-61) and a drive shaft (62-63) which is journalled in the holes (56-61) and carries a rotary pump member (76-77 or 80-81) in each cavity (54 and 55a). The casing elements (23-29) are manifolded to provide a first fluid inlet passage (82), a first fluid delivery passage (84) which terminates in a port in a fluid delivery end plate (29), a second fluid inlet passage (86) which has an entrance opening (H6) in the fluid delivery end plate (29), and a second fluid outlet passage (87) which terminates in a port in the fluid delivery end plate (29). There may be two subassemblies (21 and 22) with two pumps in each, secured together in face abutting relationship with an axially interengaged driving connection (62a-63a) between drive shaft segments (62 and 63) in the two subassemblies (21 and 22) and with fluid delivery passages (83 and 84) extending from one assembly through the other.

    • An excavator has a number of different hydraulically power­ed functions (28, 32, 36) that are controlled by a closed center hydraulic system which features a pair of variable displacement, engine driven hydraulic pumps (44, 46), the displacement of which is responsive to the demands of the system. The flow to various hydraulic motors (30, 34, 38) for the functions (28, 32, 36) is controlled by pilot ope­rated load sensing control valves (85, 86, 87, 88, 89, 90) which direct fluid pressure to a load sensing line (74) when one of the hydraulic motors in the system is being operated. This load sensing line (74) is connected to con­trols (48, 50) of the pumps (44, 46) to place the pumps in stroke when a flow of pressurized fluid is required. The flow of the load sensing pressure to the control (48) for one of the pumps (44) can be optionally disconnected by an on/off valve (78) to place this pump (44) in a standby con­dition and thereby reduce the flow capacity of the hydrau­lic system at the option of the operator.

    • A fluid pressure supply system incorporates two pumping units P1 and P2 for supplying fluid under pressure to a load 13. Pump P1 supplies the load continuously. Pump P2 is also connected to the load 13 through a load valve 15 when pressure in the load is low but is connected to drain through the load valve when load pressure is high. A pressure relief valve 14 controls the load valve 15 by a connection from port 22 to port 28 which applies system pressure to the load valve at low pressure and drain pressure via port 23 at higher pressures in response to relief valve spool movement. The high control pressure moves load valve spool 25 to connect its inlet port 29 to load 13 through port 33. When system pressure is high and control pressure is low, inlet 29 is connected to drain port 31 so that pump P2 is off-load in that it is pumping direct to drain.

    • A hydraulic system for a tractor, comprising hydraulic pumps (3,4) driven by the tractor's engine (M), their intake sides connected over an intake filter (2) to an oil tank (1). The system comprises a valve mechanism (5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14,15) by mediation of which the hydraulic pumps (3,4) have been connected to the lifting cylinder (12) of the tractor's three-point lifting attachment. The hydraulic system comprises at least two hydraulic pumps (3,4), which have been connected to be in parallel. Of these hydraulic pumps, one is a mini-pump (4) and the other is a bigger main pump (3) with an output several times the output of the mini-pump (4).
