摘要： Embodiments of the present invention provide a cell processing method and apparatus. The method includes: obtaining, by a first sending end, a first timestamp compensation time; adding, by the first sending end, the first timestamp compensation time to a first timestamp carried in a first cell, where the first timestamp is a sending time of the first cell; and sending, by the first sending end to a receiving end, the first cell that is added with the first timestamp compensation time, so that the receiving end forwards the first cell according to the first timestamp that is added with the first timestamp compensation time. In the embodiments of the present invention, a first timestamp compensation time is added to a first timestamp carried in a first cell, to prevent a second cell, which is sent by a second sending end, from waiting at the receiving end for a cell that is sent by a first sending end at a time the same as a sending time of the second cell, where the cell reaches the receiving end after a longer delay time than a delay time after which the second cell reaches the receiving end, which improves cell forwarding efficiency of the receiving end and prevents the occurrence of cell accumulation in a link.

摘要： A line card for a data packet router interfaces to a high-speed standard data link and has a first portion interfacing to the router and having a plurality of slower ports, and a second portion having a framer (47) compatible with and coupled to the data link. The framer (47) is coupled through an ingress and an egress data path (51, 49) between the framer (47) and the slower ports, each with separate ingress buffers and egress buffers for each port. An interface control circuit controls data packet transfers between the slower ports and the framer in both directions. In a preferred embodiment a function is used by the control circuit to map packets from the link to the ports, using keys extracted from the incoming packets. For an IP packet the key is the source address, destination address (SA/DA) pair, which constrains packets for same IP conversations to be routed by the same path.

A port filter (316) generates policy equations and a differential services code point (DSCP) signal for the received packets. A decoder (411) and an action memory (412) in the action generator (318) choose the highest priority policy equation and use the policy equation to look up priority information for the data frame. A state machine (410) in the action generator receives the DSCP signal. A result tag interface (413) receives a DSCP field from the state machine (410) and the priority information from the action memory (412). Based on these signals, the result tag interface (413) constructs the final action tag.

摘要： The invention allows to assess a level of multicast traffic in a data switch of the kind devised to steer fixed-size data packets, from input to output ports, through a shared memory which temporarily holds a single copy of them in buffers. Output ports are each equipped with an output port queue which contains pointers to those of the buffers holding data packets due to leave the data switch through them. Then, the invention assumes that the total number of shared-memory buffers currently holding a data packet is counted and compared to the total number of buffer pointers found in the output queues. Hence, a metric of the level of multicast traffic is derived resulting in the calculation of a MultiCast Index (MCI). The invention further assumes that data switch is used together with a Switch Core Adaptation Layer (SCAL) which includes a multicast input queue. Because traffic is handled on the basis of a set of priority classes a multicast threshold MCT(P), associated to the multicast input queue, per priority, is set or updated. Therefore, while receiving incoming data traffic, MCI is kept calculated and, for each priority class (P), in each SCAL, MCI is compared to MCT(P) to determine whether corresponding multicast traffic must be held or not. The invention helps preventing traffic congestion in communications networks, using fixed-size data packet switches, that would otherwise occur when a high level of multicast and broadcast traffic has to be supported at network nodes.
