    • An automatic transmission for a vehicle comprises: an input shaft (2) connected to an output shaft of an engine; a first planetary gear unit (10) including a helical sun gear, helical planet pinions supported for rotation on a planet carrier, and a helical ring gear, the sun gear (or the ring gear) being connected to the input shaft (2), the ring gear (or the sun gear) being connected through a one-way clutch to a fixed member such that the same can be restrained from rotation relative to the fixed member, the planet carrier being connected to a first output shaft (15); a first clutch (17) interposed between the input shaft (2) and the first output shaft (15) and capable of being engaged by the action of flyweights operated by centrifugal force and of being disengaged by thrust exerted on the helical gears; a second planetary gear unit (20) including a sun gear, planet pinions supported for rotation on a planet carrier, and a ring gear, the planet carrier being connected to the first output shaft (15), the sun gear (or the ring gear) being connected to a second output shaft (25), the ring gear (or the sun gear) being connected through a one-way clutch (26) to a fixed member such that the same can be restrained from rotation relative to the fixed member; a second clutch (27) interposed between the first and the second output shaft (15, 25), and capable of being controlled by a control means so as to engage the first and the second output shaft (15, 25) or disengage the first and the second output shaft (15, 25) from each other; a third planetary gear unit (30) including a helical sun gear, a helical planet pinions supported for rotation on a planet carrier, and a helical ring gear, the sun gear (or the ring gear) being connected to the second output shaft (25), the ring gear (or the sun gear) being connected through a one-way clutch to a fixed member such that the same can be restrained from rotation relative to the fixed member; and a third clutch (37) interposed between the second and a third output shaft (25, 35), and capable of being engaged by the action of flyweights operated by centrifugal force and of being disengaged by thrust exerted on the helical gears.

    • An automotive internal combustion engine control system transmits the output of a starting motor (4) capable of operating as a generator to an internal combustion engine (1) in starting the internal combustion engine, and transmits the output of the internal combustion engine to accessories (5, 6, 7) while the internal combustion engine (1) is in operation. The automotive internal combustion engine control system includes a transmission mechanism (20) that transmits the output of the starting motor to the accessories while the internal combustion engine is stopped for a predetermined condition, transmits the rotation of the drive shaft of the starting motor to the crankshaft of the internal combustion engine at a high first gear ratio in starting the internal combustion engine, and transmits the rotation of the crankshaft of the internal combustion engine to the drive shaft of the starting motor at a low second gear ratio while the internal combustion engine is in operation to operate the starting motor as a generator. The transmission mechanism enables driving the accessories by the starting motor while the internal combustion engine is stopped, smoothly starting the internal combustion engine and efficient energy regeneration while the internal combustion engine is in operation.

    • A centrifugal friction clutch for an automatic transmission comprises: friction elements supported on an input member so as to be axially movable and to be rotated together with the input member; clutch cover supported on an output member so as to be axially movable relative to the output member and to rotate together with the output member; clutch elements supported on the clutch cover so as to be axially slidable; centrifugal weights disposed at predetermined positions on the clutch cover; spring members holding the centrifugal weights in place; and first retaining means put in place on the clutch cover to press the friction members and the clutch members against each other so that power can be transmitted when the centrifugal weights are displaced by centrifugal force to move the clutch cover relative to the output member. A first spring bearing member placed in contact with one end of each of the spring members urges the centrifugal weights toward their initial positions, and a second spring bearing member placed in contact with the other end of each of the spring members is held in place on the clutch cover by second retaining means engaging the clutch cover.
