    • The invention relates to an electrohydraulic braking system for motor vehicles of the 'brake-by-wire' type. The inventive brake system further comprises a hydraulic pressure source (9) and a valve unit (10) for reducing the pressure generated by the pressure source (9) to a pressure value that is fed into an intermediate space (11) by means of which the second piston (4) and the third piston (5) are separated from each other in such a way that the third piston (5) is impinged in the direction extending opposite the direction of impingement of the second piston (4) with the aid of the pressure acting upon the second piston (4). According to the invention, a valve member (13) of the valve unit (10) is embodied such that the two faces thereof are subjected to the effect of the pressure prevailing in the intermediate space (11).
