    • A pentagonal roof reflecting mirror assembly for use in a viewfinder optical system of a single lens reflex camera is provided. The roof mirror assembly is of a modular form and includes an upper roof member and a lower roof support member that can be fastened together to form an enclosure that prevents the entrance of dust. The upper roof portion includes at least a pair of roof walls provided with a first and second mirror. The lower roof support member includes at least a lower light transmission wall and a side front wall provided with a third mirror positioned opposite to the first and second mirrors. The lower roof support member is molded of a transparent plastic material to permit light flux for the viewfinder optical system to enter the enclosure through the lower light transmission wall. Optical elements such as prisms, fresnel lens, plano-convex and plano-concave lenses can be molded as an integral part of the support assembly.

    • A pentagonal prism for use in a viewfinder of a single lens reflex camera makes use of total reflection of viewfinder light flux at effective optical path regions on its pair of roof surfaces. The prism constitutes a module together with a protection cover attachable thereto for protection of the roof surfaces. The cover is provided with a pair of roof walls accomodated to the roof surfaces of the prism and including recessed portions corresponding to the effective optical path regions on the roof surfaces and peripheral portions corresponding to portions on the roof walls out of the effective optical path regions. Upon attachment of the cover to the prism, the peripheral portions contact the portions on the roof surfaces out of the effective optical path regions and an air space which ensures the total reflection is left between the inner surfaces of the recessed portions and the effective optical path regions on the roof surfaces. A ghost may be prevented from occurring when the inner surfaces of the roof walls are black-frosted, black-ground or black-roughened for light absorption or when the roof walls are designed to intersect with one another at a ridge angle of less than 90.degree. .

    • An analyte and a reactant 3 that reacts with the analyte either directly or indirectly are allowed to react with each other on the analytical areas A of a substrate 1 and signals originating from the reaction are detected. In at least a signal detection step, either a signal generation-related portion 4x or a detector is provided in a portion that is opposed to the substrate 1 and high and low areas are formed in either the substrate 1 or the opposed portion or both in such a manner that the distance from each analytical area A of the substrate to the opposed portion is shorter than the distance from each of the non-analytical areas B of the substrate to the opposed portion, whereby signals originating from the reaction in the analytical areas A will be detected at higher intensities than signals originating from the reaction in the non-analytical areas B. The analyte can be quantitatively or qualitatively analyzed on the analytical areas of the substrate in high precision with reduced effects from the non-analytical areas of the substrate. Simultaneous analysis of multiple samples or simultaneous analysis for multiple items can also be accomplished with a simple sensor configuration.

    • A camera includes a forwardly facing illuminatable visual member and a first group of laterally spaced parallel vertical light absorbent vanes extending from the face of the visual member to restrict the light rays directed therefrom to a predetermined horizontal angle which is a function of the intervane spacing and the depth of the vanes. The vane parameters are such that the predetermined angle is equal to the camera field angle or the range finder viewing angle or two groups of vanes may be provided corresponding to each of the camera and view finder field angles. A second group of vertically spaced horizontal vanes may be provided to limit the visibility of the visual member to one or more vertical angles. The first and second vane groups are perpendicular to each other and either intercept each other, from rectangular frames or are superimposed. A network is provided for varying the illumination of the visual member in response to the ambient light and another network is provided for illuminating the visual member in relation to the initiation of a self-timing cycle. Where two angles delineating vane groups are provided, the visual member is divided into corresponding differently illuminated sections.
