    • A camera includes a forwardly facing illuminatable visual member and a first group of laterally spaced parallel vertical light absorbent vanes extending from the face of the visual member to restrict the light rays directed therefrom to a predetermined horizontal angle which is a function of the intervane spacing and the depth of the vanes. The vane parameters are such that the predetermined angle is equal to the camera field angle or the range finder viewing angle or two groups of vanes may be provided corresponding to each of the camera and view finder field angles. A second group of vertically spaced horizontal vanes may be provided to limit the visibility of the visual member to one or more vertical angles. The first and second vane groups are perpendicular to each other and either intercept each other, from rectangular frames or are superimposed. A network is provided for varying the illumination of the visual member in response to the ambient light and another network is provided for illuminating the visual member in relation to the initiation of a self-timing cycle. Where two angles delineating vane groups are provided, the visual member is divided into corresponding differently illuminated sections.

    • A flat compact camera employing a disk type film cartridge includes a body member having an open topped cavity and directly mounting an objective lens and a chamber member replaceably housing a film cartridge and hinged along its rear to the camera body for swinging between a photographically inoperative position retracted into the cavity and an operative condition extending from the cavity. A mirror located in the cavity is swingable between retracted and advanced positions respectively offset from and intercepting the objective lens optical axis in response to the chamber member retracted and advanced positions. The shutter and film advancing mechanisms are housed in the chamber member and the viewfinder in the body member and the chamber member is spring biased toward its extended position and the mirror toward its advanced position, the chamber being releasably locked in retracted position.

    • A small single lens reflex camera for use with a 110 film format cartridge is provided. The size of the camera body can be maintained at a minimum by an improved view finder optical system which coacts with a movable mirror movable into and out of the photographic path in correlation with the releasing operation of a shutter. A series of reflecting mirrors are utilized in the viewfinder assembly within certain angular design parameters to maintain a compact shape while permitting a highly accurate focusing system. The viewfinder optical system can be assembled as a relatively stationary sealed module unit. The movable mirror is adjustable relative to the optical path to optimize its alignment and calibration focusing of an image on the focusing plate of the module viewfinder.

    • A still camera for use with film having a row of perforations, one for each film frame, has a manually operated film advancing mechanism and a metering mechanism for selectively disabling the advancing mechanism. A lock mechanism retains an intermediate gear at the position where the gear transmits the movement of the manual film advancing member to a film wind-up gear for the film transportation. A sensing pawl releases the intermediate gear and disconnects the same from a transmission train between the manual member to the film wind-up gear to disable the film transportation when the sensing pawl detects a perforation and is slightly moved thereby.
