摘要： PURPOSE:To make it possible to produce a high-quality crack-free ceramic scintillator, by using a metal having a coefficient of thermal expansion substantially equal to that of the sintered substance as the raw material for a metallic capsule in which the material is packed in sintering a rare earth oxysulfide by the HIP method. CONSTITUTION:In sintering a rare earth oxysulfide [e.g., a compound of the formula (wherein x is in the range of 3X10 , and the amount of F is 2-1000ppm)] by the hot isostatic press method (hereinbelow referred to as HIP), a metal having a coefficient of thermal expansion substantially equal to that of the sintered substance is used as the raw material for a metallic capsule in which the material is packed together with a sintering aid (e.g., Li2GeF6). For instance, iron-nickel steel is the most suitable for the rare earth oxysulfide of the above formula. By performing HIP by using this capsule, a crack-free ceramic scintillator can be made in good yields. Therefore, the ceramic scintillator obtained above is suitable as a material for a radiation-detecting element for X-ray CT.

CONSTITUTION:Extremely small grooves are formed in a printed board 8 and a light shield plate 5 where Si photodiodes 7 with which scintillator crystal 6 is coupled optically are arrayed and installed at the specific intervals and partition plates 9 for respective detecting elements are inserted into the grooves. Thus, the partition plates 9 are inserted and when grooves which prevent a light leak between adjacent detecting elements are formed, the grooves need to be at least 1mm. In this case, the intensity of radiation is 0.5 - several % and a difference in elements due to the leak of light or radiation at the tip part of the partition late between detecting element is reduced extremely.

The majority of the reflected light is radiated to the radiation incidence side of the scintillator 6. This light is reflected by a light reflecting film 9 provided on the surfaces of the reflecting plate 5 and a partition plate and photodetected and converted into an electric signal by a semiconductor photodetector 7. The semiconductor detector 7 is elevated to the scintiallator 6 by distance (x) and turned by an angle theta to increase the degree of the confrontation between the scintilator 6 and detector 7, photodetecting the emitted light of the scintilator 6 uniformly.

Thereby, the decomposition of Gd2O2S at a high temp. is suppressed and the scattering of the characteristics of Gd2O2S sintered compact is remarkably decreased to obtain the sintered compact suitable as scintillator for X-ray CT.
