    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silicon nitride sintered compact having high strength and high toughness under room temperature and a high temperature and a method of manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The silicon nitride sintered compact is manufactured by molding a mixture into a molding in which a single crystal β-type silicon nitride columnar particle is oriented in a specific direction and after degreasing, sintering under a nitrogen atmosphere in the manufacturing method. The mixture consists essentially of silicon nitride powder, contains 0.1-5.0 wt.% silica and 1.0-20.0 wt.% lutetia as sintering assistants and further contains 0.1-10 vol.% single crystal β-type silicon nitride columnar particle having a minor axis larger than that of silicon nitride powder and having aspect ratio of ≥2 as a seed crystal.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon dioxide absorbent which can efficiently catch carbon dioxide at high temperature, and to provide a method for separating carbon dioxide.
      SOLUTION: This carbon dioxide absorbent is characterized by comprising calcium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate in a calcium : sodium atom ratio of 1 : ≤1 and giving the mixture of the calcium carbonate with the sodium-calcium double carbonate salt having a sodium : calcium ratio of 1 : 1 at high temperature. The carbon dioxide absorbent has an action for catching the carbon dioxide in a high temperature gas exhausted from a coal gasification furnace or the like in a temperature range of 800 to 1,000°C by the absorption and release of the carbon dioxide in the melted state of the double carbonate salt. Herein, the sintering and evaporation of calcia at high temperature after the release of carbon dioxide can be prevented, because the calcium carbonate is taken into the fused liquid of the double carbonate salt.
