    • In a process for producing polyarylene sulfide, comprising: reacting an alkali sulfide source and an aromatic dihalide compound in a polar organic solvent to obtain a polymerizate slurry containing polyarylene sulfide particles, by-produced alkali metal salt fine particles and the polar organic solvent, and recovering the polyarylene sulfide particles washed from the polymerizate slurry; the polymerizate slurry is separated by sieving into the polyarylene sulfide particles and a slurry containing the alkali metal salt fine particles, and the separated polyarylene sulfide particles are subjected to a washing step wherein the polyarylene sulfides are introduced into a countercurrent washing apparatus enclosing a movable part and subjected therein to continuous countercurrent contact with a washing liquid. As a result, polyarylene sulfide particles of good quality are produced at a good yield, while pursuing process rationalization.

    • A process for producing polyarylene sulfide includes: steps of reacting an aromatic dihalide compound and an alkaline metal compound in a polar organic solvent for polymerization under heating and cooling a system including the reaction mixture to recover particulate polyarylene sulfide (PAS). The system after the reaction is gradually cooled at an average cooling speed of 0.2 to 1.0 deg. C./min. selectively in a temperature range of from 1 deg. C. below to 1 deg. C. above a maximum system-viscosity temperature. As a result, the process can be operated at a relatively short polymerization cycle and yet provides the product PAS particles with a high and stable bulk density as to exhibit good processability in the transportation and storage, and excellent transportability in a hopper or a screw of an extruder or a molding machine.

    • Disclosed is a process for producing poly(arylene sulfide) which includes: a polymerization step of polymerizing a dihalogenated aromatic compound and at least one sulfur source selected from the group consisting of alkali metal sulfides and alkali metal hydrogen sulfides in an organic amide solvent, preferably in the presence of a phase separating agent; a separation step of separating a polymer from a reaction liquid containing a produced polymer after the polymerization step; a washing step of washing the polymer with a washing liquid that consists of water and/or an organic solvent; and a separated liquid treatment step of bringing both a separated liquid that has been recovered after the separation of the polymer in the separation step and a separated liquid containing a wash waste liquid that has been recovered after the separation of the polymer in the washing step into contact with an alkaline compound. Also disclosed is poly(arylene sulfide).
