    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sample producing device for an electron microscope, capable of drying a sample without damaging the shape of the sample containing moisture.
SOLUTION: This sample producing device for the electron microscope 1 retains a liquid containing the sample at a temperature in which the sample is not frozen and the liquid is not brought into a supercooled state by a sample retaining part 5. A cooling stand 6 cools a cooling block 7 placed on it, and forces the cooling block 7 into contact with the supercooled liquid containing the sample, and thereby the sample and the liquid containing the sample are promptly cooled to a temperature lower than the maximum ice crystal temperature.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a molecular diagnosis system for human lung cancer which can be used in common for four pathologic conditions of the human lung cancer and by which the four pathologic conditions can be automatically identified.
SOLUTION: A fluorescence value of specimen cells and a fluorescence value of normal lung-derived cells are obtained from a DNA microarray on which a DNA probe set including oligonucleotide consisting of a DNA sequence expressed in sequence numbers 1-80 is mounted. Four evaluations concerning the fluorescence value are outputted for each spot. The result of estimation of each spot is cross-checked with an evaluation table of each pathologic condition which is previously prepared and the result of diagnosis of lung cancer is automatically determined.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface plasmon sensor and a measuring device that have a light transmission member in a midway of an optical fiber and can improve the sensitivity.
SOLUTION: A sensor section SP having the light transmission member for making part of transmitted light react with an external world and a metal film for generating surface plasmon by reflection of light in the light transmission member on the outer peripheral surface is disposed in the midway of optical fibers 20a and 20b. The optical fibers are fixed at a position where a fixing tool 13 having a clamp 14 grips the light transmission member so that the optical fiber including the light transmission member forms a shape of a predetermined radius of curvature. A light source is disposed, and emits sensor light to an incident end of the optical fiber. A light receiving section is disposed and detects the sensor light emitted from the emission end of the optical fiber via the light transmission member.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for working a tubular member by which the tubular member is thinned down while deforming the cross-sectional shape of the tubular member without using a die because the tubular member before drawing and the tubular member after drawing are approximately the same shape in the cross-sectional shape in a conventional dieless drawing and the cross-sectional shape can not be deformed.
SOLUTION: The tubular member 10 is thinned down while deforming the cross-sectional shape by drawing the tubular member 10 without using the die while locally heating the member in the peripheral direction. It is preferable to cool the atmosphere situated in the surroundings of the locally heated part in the peripheral direction of the tubular member 10. When n places separated each other in the peripheral direction are heated, the cross-sectional shape of the tubular member after drawing becomes a hollow n-polygon.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber for sensors, which is more convenient, highly reliable in strength, and highly functional. SOLUTION: In the preform forming process of the optical fiber, a region with different core diameters in the major axis direction of the core preform is preliminarily prepared and then fusion-drawn, thereby integrally forming an optical sensor functional part in the intermediate part of the optical fiber body. In addition, by intermittently varying the fusion-drawing speed of the optical fiber preform, the optical sensor functional part is also integrally formed in the intermediate part of the optical fiber body. Moreover, in the composite melting/spinning method of a plastic optical fiber, there is intermittently varied a discharge quantity per unit time of a polymer material constituting the core, so that the optical sensor functional part is again integrally formed in the intermediate part of the body of the plastic optical fiber.
