摘要： Route searching (35) to the destination is performed by use of a road data (26) having each crossing data and road data and by inputting the destination to generate navigation data (27) and a course to the destination is directed while the present position is being traced (37). A course guide to the end crossing of the present position road is output by use of data on travelling guide from each crossing to the destination obtained via route searching (35) from the road network data (26). At a crossing, the present position is traced on a travelling direction road which has been recognized by a present position trace means (37) and the end crossing of that road is recognized. Recognition of a travelling direction is made at the end crossing of a road between crossings and the road in the travelling direction is used as the present position road to output a guide to the next end crossing and this procedure is repeated at each crossing up to the destination and course guiding is thus performed. In route searching, a travelling road to the destination is set for each crossing. Therefore, course guiding to the destination from the end crossing of a travelling road can be conducted by recognizing a crossing and its travelling road.

When the name of a prefecture, a city or a town is selected in which the destination is not specified, a path search routine is executed by the input of the prefecture, city or town name in order to search the list of prefecture names, that of city names and that of town names successively, and to set the intersection of the destination based on the addresses stored in the list of intersections and the list of characteristic marks. Even when the destination cannot be specified, therefore, a particular destination can be called from the ambiguous destination, e.g., a representative intersection or a representative mark is called to navigate the driver toward the destination.

摘要： A tolerance for lateral acceleration generated in a vehicle (lateral acceleration tolerance) is set at which the vehicle can safely perform a U-turn without applying a load to vehicle occupants while the vehicle performs the U-turn. Based on the set lateral acceleration tolerance and a width curvature radius, a "maximum U-turn speed of the vehicle for the road" is set. If the vehicle performs turning that may be a U-turn while traveling in a one-way zone and a turning speed at such time is equal to or less than the "maximum U-turn speed of the vehicle for the road", it is determined that the vehicle performed a U-turn. The vehicle is thus recognized as in a wrong-way travel situation due to performing the U-turn, and a warning of the vehicle traveling in the wrong direction is made.
