    • The invention is directed to an arrangement for controlling a braking force applied to a road wheel, with a hydraulic braking pressure supplied to a wheel brake cylinder through an actuator. A standard speed is set on the basis of a wheel speed detected by a wheel speed sensor, and a peak of the wheel speed changing from increase thereof to decrease thereof is detected. A coefficient of friction of road surface is determined on the basis of a vehicle acceleration detected by an acceleration sensor. The actuator is controlled according to a pressure control mode selected from a decrease mode for decreasing the pressure, a hold mode for holding the pressure, a first increase mode for increasing the pressure when the wheel speed exceeds the standard speed, and a second increase mode for increasing the pressure when the wheel speed exceeds the peak of the wheel speed. The first increase mode is selected when the coefficient of friction exceeds a predetermined value and the standard speed exceeds a predetermined speed. The second increase mode is selected when the standard speed is lower than the predetermined speed.

    • The invention is directed to an anti-skid control system for controlling a braking force applied to each of the road wheels with a hydraulic braking pressure supplied to a wheel brake cylinder through pressure control means. A wheel speed of each of the road wheels is detected. Then, an estimated vehicle speed for each of the road wheels is calculated on the basis of the wheel speed and a decreasing rate of estimated vehicle speed for at least one of the road wheels other than the road wheel for which the estimated vehicle speed is being calculated. The estimated vehicle speed is, therefore, prevented from being set largely below the actual speed of the vehicle. The pressure control means is provided for increasing, holding or decreasing the hydraulic braking pressure in response to a result of comparison between the estimated vehicle speed and the wheel speed for each of the road wheels.

    • The invention is directed to an arrangement for controlling a braking force applied to each of right and left road wheels individually depending upon a braking condition, with a hydraulic braking pressure supplied to each of wheel brake cylinders through actuators respectively. The actuators are controlled by the braking force control system wherein output signals of wheel speed detectors are fed into first and second detecting circuits respectively by which the braking conditions of the road wheels are detected. Then, the detected signals are fed into a first driving circuit which produces driving signals fed to the actuators on the basis of an output signal fed from either of the detectors for one road wheel having a tendency to be locked first. One of the actuators provided for the road wheel on the road surface of the lower coefficient of friction is driven by a driving signal fed from the first driving circuit, whereas the other actuator is driven by a driving signal which is fed from the first driving circuit and modified thereafter by the second driving circuit in response to a value representing a vehicle speed so as to increase the hydraulic braking pressure rapidly when the vehicle is driven at low speed, consequently shortening the stopping distance.

    • A brake pressure control device for use in an anti-skid control system decreases the slipping of a car wheel by reducing the car wheel brake pressure when the slipping of the car wheel against the road surface is excessive at the time of applying a brake pressure to the car wheel brake. The brake pressure control device includes a valve body having a first input port, a second input port, an output port, a spool valve with an annular recess communicating the ports, a spring biasing the spool valve toward a first position, a pressure chamber connected to the output port for applying pressure to the spool to move the spool toward a second portion and an electric coil for applying a force to move the spool toward the first position. Thus, the car wheel brake pressure can be controlled in proportion to the current supplied to the coil.

    • An electronic system for controlling an automatic transmission having an hydraulic control circuit comprises a large scale integrated semiconductor logic unit, a semiconductor read-only memory, a semiconductor read-write memory and input and output ports as required. The read-only memory fixedly stores standard data indicating the upper and the lower limit value of vehicle speed which correspond to the individual throttle openings of the engine for each shift lever position of a vehicle on which the automatic transmission, the hydraulic control circuit and the electronic system are mounted; slope detecting reference data indicating the vehicle speeds on slopes which correspond to the throttle opening in each shift lever position; slope detecting program data which is utilized to detect a slope as a result of the comparison between the reference data on one hand and the current shift lever position, the current throttle opening and the current vehicle speed; additional program data which is utilized to modify at least part of the standard data in response to a slope detected to produce shift reference data which corresponds to the slope; shift determining program data which determines a speed range to be established in response to the comparison of the current speed range, the current throttle opening and the current vehicle speed against the shift reference data; and shift controlling program data responsive to the determined speed range to control the energization of the solenoid valves. In accordance with the slope detecting program data, the electronic system detects a slope, and modifies the standard data in response to the slope detected, in accordance with the modifying program data, thus producing a shift reference data, which is then written into the read-write memory. In addition, the electronic system compares against the current speed range, the current throttle opening and the vehicle speed against the shift reference data to determine a speed range to which the transmission is to be switched, generally in accordance with the shift determining program data.
