    • An engine (44) of a motor vehicle is supported from the body or chassis of the vehicle by an engine mount (30) including a dished metal support (32) which is bolted to the chassis or body. An abutment arrangement for limiting excessive movement of the engine (44) relative to the body or chassis of the vehicle, in response to sudden and large changes in engine torque, sudden braking of the vehicle, or sudden changes in direction of the vehicle or in the road contour, comprises an abutment (60, 62) made of stiff resilient material and positioned between the engine (44) and a bracket (64, 66) rigid with the dished metal plate (32) and thus with the chassis or body of the vehicle. Such movement of the engine will be primarily in a direction such as to compress one or other of the abutments (60, 62) but will also have a generally vertical component so as to trace an elliptical path (80). The abutments (60, 62) are mounted so as to be capable of at least a limited amount of rolling or angular movement in response to the vertical component of the engine's movement, so as to minimise the generation of a shear force in the abutments (60, 62) which would tend to increase their rigidity.

    • The disclosure is directed to a single layer including a plurality of unit cells. Each unit cell includes a first bowling pin structure interlocked with a second bowling pin structure arranged in an opposite orientation to the first bowling pin structure. The first bowling pin structure has a first sidewall, a first wide end, and an opposing first narrow or equal size end. Likewise, the second bowling pin structure has a second sidewall, a second wide end. Each of the bowling pin structures has a center axis along a longitudinal axis of the single layer structure.
