    • An adiabatic Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) system includes a low pressure compressor structure (14) to provide compressed air; a first heat exchanger (26) to extract heat from the compressed air exiting the low pressure compressor structure; a thermal storage device (60) to store the extracted heat during off-peak load periods; a motor-driven high pressure compressor (30) to receive compressed air cooled by the first heat exchanger, an aftercooler (34) to extract heat from the further compressed air; an air storage (36) to receive and store the further compressed air cooled by the second heat exchanger; a second heat exchanger (64) to transfer heat stored in the first thermal storage device to compressed air released from the air storage during peak periods; and a turbine structure (40) to expand the heated compressed air released from the air storage to produce power.

    • A torque transmitting device (10) for transmitting torque from a power source to a rotating driven load. The device (10) comprises a cylindrical assembly (12) adapted to be mechanically coupled via its outer circumference to the rotating driven load. The device (10) is provided with a port (18) at on its inner circumference and a rotor assembly (20) adapted to be mechanically coupled to the power source, and rotatably mounted within the cylindrical assembly (12) so as to form a fluid chamber (22) between the rotor assembly (20) and the inner circumference of the cylindrical assembly (12). The rotor assembly (20) comprises a plurality of pistons (26) at angularly spaced intervals, each piston (26) being movable between a retracted position and an extended position in which it extends into the fluid chamber (22). The device (10) also comprises a hydraulic fluid provided in the fluid chamber (22) whereby, in use, upon activation of the pistons (26) an hydraulic lock is formed between the rotor assembly (20) and the cylindrical assembly (12) to transmit torque from the rotor assembly (20) to the cylindrical assembly (12).

    • A system and method to allow backup or alternate fluid flow routes around malfunctioning components using removable, modular component sets. In one exemplary embodiment, an ROV establishes a backup hydraulic flow to a BOP function by attaching one end of a hose to a modular valve block and the other end to an intervention shuttle valve, thus circumventing and isolating malfunctioning components. A compound intervention shuttle valve is provided that comprises first and second primary inlets, first and second secondary inlets, and an outlet. A modular valve block is provided that comprises a directional control valve, a pilot valve, a manifold pressure regulator, a pilot pressure regulator, stab type hydraulic connections and an electrical wet-make connection.
