    • An internal combustion engine which is combined with a thermal cycle of the Rankine type in which water is heated to steam and injected into the engine along with the fuel for increasing the engine output. Increased power can be provided with a turbine compressor (16) receiving the exhaust from the engine and compressing the air intake to the engine. An additional fuel burner (22) may be provided to drive the turbine to provide still further increased and immediate power. The engine may be run either as a two stroke or four stroke engine. A single valve (7) may be used to communicate the engine cylinder with the air intake and exhaust when used in conjunction with a rotating valve (8) which selectively communicates the single valve with the air inlet or outlet. A two cycle engine having a precombustion chamber (35) has an opening which receives a piston profile (38) for providing increased performance.

    • An internal combustion engine and method of operation employing timed injection of water into the combustion chamber for one or a combination of recapturing waste heat, cooling the engine, and lowering Nox emissions of the engine. The water injection subsequent to the power stroke of the engine employs residual heat and heat conducted from surfaces of the combustion chamber, to form steam to drive a second power stroke. The water injection can also be employed to pre-cool the combustion chamber to avoid formation of Nox gases during fuel combustion and by recapturing residual and conductive heat from the combustion chamber the engine is cooled thereby minimizing or eliminating exterior cooling system requirements.

    • According to the invention, a spark-ignited two-cycle engine comprises a pump for improving the exhaust gas quality thereof. Said pump delivers fuel or an air-fuel mixture into the combustion chamber (9) after the exhaust port or valve is closed. A converted miniature two-cycle engine is used as a mixture pump. Overall, the engine comprises a simple and robust design and exhibits an improved exhaust gas quality. According to the invention, it is useful to use a separate carburetor to regulate idling. Said carburetor is connected to the crankcase of the two-cycle engine and supplies only a base load (idling). A divided piston with a port between the piston head (45) and the piston skirt (45) is also useful for improving the quality of the exhaust gas. By virtue of said piston, the smallest amounts of lubricant are required and it is possible to attain increased piston head temperatures without the engine losing large amounts of heat.
