    • Disclosed is a method for evaluating signals, e.g. for pulsed wheels, whereby the distance between predefinable signal flanks is determined in a microcontroller that consists of a CPU, timer and a memory and an interrupt is triggered when signal flanks occur. Said interrupt is used to store pending timer values. Time intervals are calculated on the basis of the differences between predefinable timer values. Said time intervals are inversely proportional to the speed or rpm. In order to enable a timer with a relatively low number of bits ( e.g. 16 bits) to be used, overruns of the timer are detected by an overrun counter and are taken into account when determining the differences. Only 4 bits are required per drum store value when drum stores are used, i.e. a suspect bit and three bits as overrun counters.

    • A timing circuit for recording the duration of intervals between a plurality of events in a data stream, comprising at least two timing channels, each arranged to generate a signal representing time elapsed between events.
