    • A method and a mounting tool (10) for surfacing a ship's deck (30) with planks (20) or surfacing elements (21) formed from deck planks, by attaching the planks or elements to the deck. When the planks are being mounted, a plate-like mounting tool (10) having guide tabs (12) on its underside is set over the deck planks, the guide tabs entering into the spaces between the deck planks, determining distances of a desired magnitude between the deck planks. The body plate (11) of the mounting tool is provided with at least one opening (15), through which the width of the gap between two abutting deck planks (20a, 20b) can be observed during mounting. In addition, the end of the mounting tool comprises a hook-like locking indentation (14), allowing adjacent mounting tools to be locked together to form a continuous long mounting tool.

    • A shape conforming surface covering useful for covering any type of surfaces, and comprising planks (1, 2) or sheet of a plastic or flexible material adapted to be interconnected aside of each other thereby forming an assembled surface covering of optional length and width, and which planks (1, 2) or sheet are of a material that can be brought to curved formations, and which at the upper surface of the covering is roughened, for instance sanded or filed so as to imitate any unique grain effect of wooden material.     • A boat hull is constructed by laying up perforated architectural wood veneer strips which have been designed to create the desired shape and overlap one another. A layer of strips is placed in or on a mold of the final desired shape, with each piece slightly overlapping the previous piece. The strips are bonded to one another using epoxy resin or other adhesives. The thickness of the wood strip at the overlap creates a chaseway of air along the length and ends of the each piece of adjoining wood veneer. The chaseways, in conjunction with perforations made in the wood veneer, permit the infusion of resin and removal of air without requiring any additional medium or device. The gap-filling capability of the epoxy and the thinness of the veneer give the final panel a smooth surface in spite of the veneer overlaps.
