    • A security lock (28) is described which permits a door (10) to be opened by a predetermined amount while maintaining security against forced entry. Preferably, the security lock (28) also functions as a deadbolt lock and comprises a slotted floor plate (36) covering an aperture (38) in the floor (20), a vertical bolt (34) extendable into the aperture (38), and a lock mechanism (30) which raises and lowers the bolt (34) into and out of engagement with the floor plate (36). In a first engaged position, the end (50) of the bolt (34) is locked into engagement with the floor plate (36) in such a manner that the door (10) may be partially opened. However, the bolt (34) cannot be removed from the floor plate (36) with the door open, thus providing security against forced entry through the partially open door. In a second engaged position, with the door (10) completely closed, the bolt (34) may be raised or lowered into or out of engagement with the floor plate (36), similar to a conventional deadbolt lock. The security lock (28) therefore provides improved security and convenience over known devices such as door chains and security doorstops.

    • A vehicle door latch system configured to temporarily prevent door latch mechanisms from unlatching during a predetermined event is provided. The vehicle door latch system includes a forkbolt pivotally mounted to a housing portion of the vehicle door latch. The forkbolt is capable of moving between a latching position and an unlatching position. The door latch system also includes a block out mechanism configured for movement between a blocking position and an unblocking position. The block out mechanism is configured to prevent the forkbolt from moving from the latching position to the unlatching position when the block out mechanism is in the blocking position. A biasing member biases the block out mechanism into the unblocking position. The door latch system also includes an activation mechanism for moving the block out mechanism to the blocking position when the activation mechanism is activated for a predetermined time period to overcome the biasing member and after the predetermined time period, the block out mechanism moves to the unblocking position by the biasing member.

    • A system for locking a door can: (1) lock the door in dead bolt fashion in three modes, (2) allow the door to open a limited distance, or (3) allow the door to open freely. The system has a door-mounted latch assembly (10) that includes a base plate (18), an intermediate link (36) pivoted to the base plate (18), and a mode selection and latching assembly (44) that is pivoted to the intermediate link (36). A latch plate (12) is mounted on the door frame. The latch plate (12) has a tubular portion (72) with an opening (74) for receiving the latch member (52). A mechanism (114) is also provided for locking and unlocking the locking system from the exterior of the door.
