    • Exemplary embodiments are directed to modular solenoid valve kits and associated methods, generally involving a valve body that includes a plurality of actuator section components and a plurality of head section components. The plurality of actuator section components includes a drive solenoid, a solenoid return spring, a stroke calibration collar and an actuator-to-head calibration collar. The plurality of head section components includes a needle, a stem return spring, a seal and a seat. The plurality of actuator section components and head section components are adapted to be interchanged to create a pull-through normally open valve, a pull-through normally closed valve, a push-in normally open valve and a push-in normally closed valve. That is, the kits and methods allow for modification of one valve type (e.g., a pull-through normally open valve, a pull-through normally closed valve, a push-in normally open valve and a push-in normally closed valve) into a different type.

    • A normally open non-electric valve includes a flow path through an apertured valve seat. A cavity isolated from the flow path is sealingly closed off adjacent the valve seat by a flexible diaphragm. The diaphragm is sufficiently flexible to be pushed and held away from the valve seat by fluid flowing in the flow path. When it is desired to close the valve, a pressure medium is introduced into the cavity so as to force the diaphragm against the valve seat and interrupt the fluid flow in the flow path. The normally open valve can inexpensively be converted from an inexpensive electric solenoid valve by removing the plunger, spring and coil from the electric valve, closing off the plunger cavity with a flexible diaphragm, and selectably introducing a pressure medium into the cavity when it is desired to close the valve.

    • A combined alarm and test and drain valve (1) for a fire sprinkler system has specific modifications for draining the system and allowing for flow through a specifically sized orifice under conditions simulating the flow through a sprinkler head having the same orifice size. Fluid flow occurs alternatively under a first set of test conditions in a system alarm test mode of operation, and under a second set of fluid drainage conditions in a system fluid drainage mode of operation. A mechanical force is provided by a spring (8) and a hydraulic force is provided by a pressure diferential. When performing the system alarm test function, the valve (1) opens a first size outlet opening (9), and when performing the system drainage function, the valve (1) opens a second size outlet opening (2), larger than the first opening (9).

    • A valve manifold assembly (10) for processing fluids wherein the manifold member (20) includes respective interface segments (58) to which are secured the valve members (12, 14, 16, 18). The interface segments typically are counterbored into the faces of the manifold member and include portals (62, 64) connected to passageways (66, 70) internal to the manifold member; and an alignment device such as a pin (84). The valve member includes a manifold mount body portion (24) which has a complementing alignment member such as an opening (104). The valve when positioned in the counterbored portion (88), and the pin is aligned with the alignment opening in the manifold mount body portion, ensures that the ports in the valve member and the manifold member are properly aligned. A manifold mount body portion of the valve includes an annular groove (90) which coacts with a clamping device (108, 110) to secure the valve in the respective counterbored portion. A sealing gasket (100, 102) surrounds the aligned ports to insure that no fluid leakage occurs between the ports.
