    • A composite mixture of spherical objects and lubricant useful for its cushioning properties is disclosed and claimed. The composite mixture may be composed of microspheres typically less than 2000 microns in diameter with inert atmospheres sealed within their interiors and any of a variety of lubricants facilitating sliding and rolling movement between microspheres. Typically the composite mixture includes lubricant in a quantity sufficient to substantially coat the exterior surface of essentially all of the spherical objects, but in a quantity less than would cause dispersion of the spherical objects in the lubricant sufficient to physically separate the spherical objects from each other and substantially reduce the sliding and rolling contact of the spherical objects with each other. The preferred lubricant is a visco-elastic fluid that has a principle molecule and a gelling agent. Low specific gravity, low thermal mass, low coefficient of heat transfer, lack of head pressure, insulative and flotation qualities are provided by the invention. The composite mixture may be contained in fluid-tight confinement within a flexible bladder. The preferred bladder has a stretchable fabric laminated to an impermeable, stretchable film.

    • This invention relates to pressure relief cushions. A cushion, generally indicated at (10), comprises a foam portion (11) and a gel portion (12). The foam portion (11) has a rear section (13) defining a cavity (14), whilst the front section (15) is shaped to support the users' thighs. The gel portion (12) comprises a gel sac (16), which substantially fills the cavity, and an overlay (17) that extends over both the gel sac (16) and the front section of the foam. The overlay (17) is attached to the bag (16) but is not in gel communication with it.

    • This invention provides for an ultra low density gel filled deformable cushion (10) which includes a fluid impervious flexible enclosure (12) forming an internal chamber (14). Contained within the internal chamber (14) is a padding fluid composition (16) and a plurality of particulates (18) dispersed within the padding fluid composition (16). The particulates (18) are spherically contoured and have a density which is less than the density of the padding fluid composition (16) for increasing resiliency, deformability and memory of the overall composition within the cushion (10). The spherically contoured particulates are selected from the group consisting of plastic composition microspheres, ceramic composition microspheres and combinations thereof, thereby exhibiting a bounce effect in the gel.
