    • A safety device reliably cuts off the drive current of an electric apparatus in response to various abnormalities by combination with a normally used current breaker. For example, a current breaker which senses flood or leakage is arranged in a power source plug 50 at the end of a power source cord 26, and a power switch 31 is connected to one power source line 32-1 led from the power source cord 26 into a hair dryer 25. A first sensor 34 and a second sensor 39 which are normally-open but close when sensing abnormality are arranged in the grip section 27 and blower section 28 between the other power source line 32-2 and a sensing line 33. When the sensors close in abnormality, the sensing line 33 carries current and a situation similar to flood or leakage develops on the current breaker side, so that the current of the hair dryer is cut off instantaneously.

    • A ground fault circuit interrupter, GFCI, interrupts the flow of current through a pair of lines (L, N) extending between a source of power and a load and includes a circuit breaker having a switch located in one of the pair of lines. The switch has a first position in which the source is not connected to the load and a second position in which the source is connected to the load. A relay circuit (15) including a solenoid (SOL1) is coupled to the switch for selectively positioning the switch in either the first or second position. When the solenoid is energized, the switch is positioned in the second position and when the solenoid is de-energiyed, the switch is positioned in the first position. A booster circuit (19) selectively supplies a first voltage to the solenoid which is sufficient to energize the solenoid and a power supply circuit (17) supplies a second lower valued voltage to the solenoid sufficient to maintain the solenoid in its energized state. A latch circuit (23) allows the solenoid to switch between energized states and a fault detecting circuit (21) detects a fault condition thereby causing the latch circuit to latch the solenoid in the de-energized state.

    • An electrical protection system as illustrated in the figure which can be connected in series between an electrical power supply and an electrical load to form an operating circuit, which, when so connected, protects the circuit from overcurrents. The system comprises: a control element (104) which has a relatively low resistance, RLOW, when a relatively low current, INORMAL, is passing through it, and is converted to a relatively high resistance RFAULT, when the current through it increases from INORMAL to a relatively high current, IFAULT; a circuit interruption (108) element which is connected in series with the control element, has a normal state when the current INORMAL is passing through the control element, the normal state permitting the current INORMAL to pass through the system, and has a fault state which permits the flow of at most a reduced current, substantially less than INORMAL; and a bypass element (106) which is connected in parallel with the series combination of the control element and the circuit interruption element, and is functionally linked to the circuit interruption element so that an increase in current passing through the bypass element can convert the circuit interruption element into the fault state. When the current through the system increases from INORMAL to IFAULT, the resistance of the control element increases from RLOW to RFAULT, an increased current passes through the bypass element, and the circuit interruption element is converted into the fault state.

    •  本発明の課題は、電源電圧の実効値が異なる2種類以上の交流電源に対して共通して使用可能な漏電保護装置(給電制御装置)を提供することである。本発明に係る漏電保護装置(給電制御装置)は、漏電検知部(22)と、漏電保護部(25)と、自己漏電発生部(28)と、を備える。漏電検知部(22)は、主回路から漏洩した電流がしきい値を超えたときに漏電検知信号を出力する。漏電保護部(25)は、漏電検知信号を受信したときに、主回路に挿入されている接点部(RY1)を開極する。自己漏電発生部(28)は、第1電気抵抗部(280)と第1スイッチ素子(281)が電気的に直列接続された第1短絡部と、第2電気抵抗部(282)と第2スイッチ素子(283)が電気的に直列接続された第2短絡部と、を有する。第1短絡部及び第2短絡部は、主回路を構成する一対の給電路(L1,L2)に対して、互いに電気的に並列接続される。
