    • A combustion control method for refuse incinerators stabilizes a burning state to generate a predetermined amount of steam in a refuse incinerator which makes use of heat of combustion for steam power generation. The method comprises determining a weight of refuse charged and a level change before and after the charging of refuse from measurements of a refuse load cell attached to a refuse charging crane and a refuse level meter (12), which measures a surface level of refuse in a refuse incinerator hopper, to control a speed of a drying fire grate (3a), which serves to feed refuse into the incinerator, based on a result of comparison between quantities determined in a plurality of preceding charges and the quantities determined at the present time. Also, the method comprises measuring a quantity of steam generated in the refuse incinerator and an O2 concentration in an exhaust gas, calculating a target quantity of combustion air required for having the generated steam quantity agree with a target quantity of steam generated, setting a target quantity of combustion air, when a measurement of O2 concentration in the exhaust gas first reaches a predetermined upper limit value, as a temporary set quantity of combustion air, controlling a quantity of combustion air so as to have the same agree with the target quantity of combustion air when the measurement of O2 concentration in the exhaust gas is equal to or less than the upper limit value, and controlling a quantity of combustion air so as to have the same agree with a smaller one of the target quantity of combustion air at that time and the temporary set quantity of combustion air when the measurement of O2 concentration in the exhaust gas exceeds the upper limit value.

    • Disclosed is a process for conveying solid particulate biomass material to a reactor including: charging a quantity of solid particulate biomass material to a spool piece at a pressure P 1 ; pressurizing the spool piece to a pressure P 2 , wherein P 2 is greater than P 1 ; conveying the solid particulate biomass material either directly to a reactor operated at or below P 2 or first to a vibratory feeder and then to such reactor; isolating the spool piece from the vibratory feeder and or reactor and reducing the pressure in the spool piece to P 1 ; and repeating these steps at least once. The vibratory feeder can include a bowl and an outlet spout extending tangentially from the bowl. Optionally, a hopper and a hopper-mounted solids conveyer, both resting on a mass measuring device, can be used to feed the solid particulate biomass material to the spool piece.
