    • 15 Abstract The co-current gasifier has a fuel silo (14) for storing the fuel to be gasified, such as the wood chips. The bottom of the fuel silo is made up of the upper floor (16a), underneath which there is at least one gasification compartment (20) for gasifying the fuel. The gasification compartment has a combustion chamber, which has a triple wall structure comprising an internal jacket, an intermediate jacket and an external jacket. The upper floor has several holes (30) for conducting the fuel from the fuel silo to the gasification compartment/gasification compartments. The gasification of the fuel takes place in a small area between the lower part of the fuel silo and the upper part of the gasifier. The gasifier may have several gasification compartments, whereby the upper floor has one hole leading from the fuel silo to the gasification compartment for each gasification compartment. Preferably the gasification compartments are situated in a ring-like manner underneath the upper floor. Between the gasification compartment and the upper floor there is a ring-like cooling channel (18), through which the gasification air is conducted into the gasification compartment.In an embodiment of the invention there is further a lower floor and only one gasification compartment, which is situated underneath the lower floor. The upper and lower floors limit between them a cooling space, through which several concentric holes lead.

    • A gasification reactor for processing organic waste in batches comprises a primary gasification reactor (62) that includes a primary gasification chamber (18) and a surrounding combustion chamber (19), a secondary gasification chamber (21), a synthesis gas decontamination unit (42) and a combustible gas selector (41). The waste is loaded into the primary gasification chamber through a latched opening and heated from the combustion of a fuel in the combustion chamber (19) to convert the waste to a synthesis gas. The gasification chamber (18) has an intake (20) for introducing pre-heated process air (1) therein. The combustion chamber operates either with a conventional fuel (9) or with the produced synthesis gas (6). The secondary gasification chamber (21) thermally treats the synthesis gas (2) to eliminate tars. The decontamination unit (42) scrubs the synthesis gas of contaminants including particulates and acid gases. The clean synthesis gas (6) is directed to the combustible gas selector (41) which selectively feeds either the combustible fluid (9) or the synthesis gas (6) to the burner (40).

    • In previously known apparatuses using CO or synthesis gas, where a hot particle flow is supplied into a converter in form of an aerosol, incomplete chemical conversion in the converter may occur. Furthermore, heat losses may occur, which compromises efficiency, and particles may deposit, which leads to interruptions during operation. These problems are solved by a C-converter comprising at least one aerosol converter inlet for an aerosol comprising a first gas and particles containing carbon; at least one converter gas inlet for a second gas; at least two converter chamber outlets and at least two converter chambers which are adapted to be filled with particles between a minimum and a maximum particle filling degree. The C- converter further comprises at least one diverting device which is adapted to selectively connect a fraction of the converter chambers a) to at least one of the aerosol converter inlets for aerosol or b) to at least one of the converter gas inlets for the second gas or may disconnect the converter chambers therefrom; and at least one discharging device which is adapted to selectively connect a fraction of the converter chambers to at least one of the converter outlets or to disconnect the converter chambers therefrom. Aerosols containing particles may be converted by means of the C-converter without interruption, and a high conversion degree of the materials supplied into the converter is obtained. Furthermore, an apparatus for producing CO or synthesis gas is disclosed, wherein the C-converter may be used. Methods for operating the C-converter and the apparatus for producing CO or synthesis gas are also disclosed.

    • An improved gasifier (40) adapted for gasifying a predetermined charge (56, 56a) of non-gaseous fuel into fuel gas (26). Each charge of non-gaseous fuel, which may have optional conditioning materials (46, 48, 70) added to it, is intermittently fed to a gasifier chamber (42, 42a) where each charge is partially burned with high-pressure air (18) supplied thereto. High-pressure and temperature fuel gas (26) is produced which is cleansed prior to passing out of the gasifier chamber (42, 42a). After gasification of the charge (56, 56a) of fuel is ended, the gasifier chamber (42, 42a) is vented. The residue of the burned charge in the gasifier chamber (42, 42a) is removed, along with the contaminated or reacted conditioning materials, and replaced by a fresh charge. The subject invention provides a feasible way of continuously fueling an internal combustion engine (12) with gasified fuel and is compact enough to be practical for even mobile applications.
