摘要： A receiver and tracking system for identifying a location of a magnetic field source. In a preferred embodiment a plurality of tri-axial antennas are positioned at three distinct points on a receiver frame. Each antenna detects a magnetic field from a source and a processor is used to determine a location of the source relative to the frame using the antenna signals. Each tri-axial antenna comprises three windings in each of three channels defined by a support structure. The windings each define an aperture area. The windings have substantially identical aperture areas and have a common center point. The receiver may to display to the operator the relative location of the field source or may direct the operator to a spot directly above the field source.

摘要： A monitoring system is used to monitor the location and orientation of a downhole tool assembly by detecting an output signal. The downhole tool assembly has a beacon assembly with one or more configurable operation parameters. A transmitting assembly transmits an operation instruction signal to the beacon assembly to configure the operation parameters. The detected operation instruction signal is processed by the beacon assembly and the operation parameter is configured. The transmitting assembly may be separate from the monitoring system and have an input assembly. The input assembly allows the operator to input predetermined operation parameters into the transmitting assembly that are then transmitted to the beacon assembly. In a preferred embodiment, the configurable operation parameters may include the intensity and/or frequency of the output signal, the calibration and resolution of orientation sensors, and the rate at which data is transmitted from the beacon assembly.

摘要： A system for detecting a position of an underground excavator, wherein magnetic field producers (24a, 24b, 24c) provided either at the front end of the underground excavator or at a position serving as a reference and disposed in front of this underground excavator are each constituted of a plurality of rectangular loops arranged in parallel to one another. These loops adjoining each other are superposed on each other. The respective rectangular loops are successively changed over for energization or simultaneously energized by frequencies different from one another. Furthermore, magnetic fields produced by the magnetic field producers are detected by a first magnetic field detector and a second magnetic field detector provided rearwardly of the first magnetic field detector, so that a tilt angle of the underground excavator can be determined from the difference in position between the two detectors. In this magnetic field producing cable, the loops are covered by non-magnetic members to thereby prevent the wear and disconnection of wiring. Furthermore, the loops are provided in duplicate, so that, event when one of the loops is disconnected, measuring can be continued.

摘要： A method and system for tracking a borehole produced by a drill bit (50) having a probe attached thereto by means of an externally produced magnetic field. The magnetic field is produced by a current loop (1) made up of straight line segments which facilitates the calculation of the magnitude and direction of the magnetic field at any point in space. An ammeter (5) measures the current flowing the loop (1), the value of which can be used to calculate the theoretical magnetic field vector. In order to locate the probe, magnetometers (52) within the probe are used to measure the magnetic field. Accelerometers (51) within the probe allow the determination of the probe's orientation which enables the measured field vector to be compared to the calculated field vector and the probe's location thereby ascertained.
