    • Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren einsetzbar im automatisiert ablaufenden Aufbau eines Fahrzeugluftreifens unter Verwendung von stumpf gespleißten Reifenbauteilen aus Materialbahnen, beispielsweise aus in eine Kautschukmischung eingebetteten textilen Corden oder Stahlcorden zur Herstellung einer Karkasseinlage des Fahrzeugluftreifens, wobei die Endabschnitte der abgelängten Materialbahn in einer Spleißeinrichtung mit gegeneinander bewegbaren Paaren von oberen und unteren Spleißelementen (9,10,11,12) einklemmbar und stumpf zusammenfügbar sind, wobei Es der eine Endabschnitt (5a) der abgelängten Materialbahn (5) auf einem Spleißelement (12) des einen Paares von Spleißelementen (9, 10; 11, 12) aufgelegt und fixiert wird, ferner ein dieses Paar von Spleißelementen (11, 12) tragendes Basisteil (7) bei gleichzeitiger Zuführung der Materialbahn (5) um 360° gedreht, bis der zweite Endabschnitt (5b) der nun ringartig geformten Materialbahn (5) in einem geringen Abstand vom erstgenannten Endabschnitt (5a) und in der gleichen Ebene wie dieser am zweiten Spleißelement (11) dieses Paares von Spleißelementen (11, 12) positioniert und fixiert wird und anschließend ein stumpfer Spleiß unter horizontalem Zusammenfahren der Paare von oberen und unteren Spleißelementen (9, 10, 11, 12) durchgeführt wird.

    • The present invention provides a method for making a seamless apertured belt comprising the steps of: (a) providing a strip of material having two opposing ends and having a length at least equal to a finished belt length; (b) providing an aperture pattern having a length substantially equal to the finished belt length, the pattern including a plurality of two-dimensional geometrical shapes, the pattern having opposing end edges which can be tiled together; (c) removing a pre-determined portion of each end of the pattern and joining the pre-determined portions to one another along the opposing end edges to form a re-etch pattern; (d) forming apertures in the strip corresponding to the two-dimensional geometrical shapes in the pattern, the strip remaining free of apertures in regions near each end comprising fusion zones; (e) fusing the ends of the strip to one another such that the fusion zones form a common fusion zones; and (f) forming apertures in the common fusion zone corresponding to the re-etch pattern. In a preferred embodiment, the two-dimensional pattern is an amorphous two-dimensional pattern of interlocking two-dimensional geometrical shapes. The strip of material may comprise a material selected from the group consisting of metal, plastic, fabric, rubber, and combinations thereof.

    • The invention relates to a method of welding two generally rod-shaped structures (5, 6) of a fluorine-containing plastic material in a butt weld to form a closed-loop construction. The structures may comprise sealing or backup rings for use in high pressure swivels. The method comprises steps of: placing the end faces of the structures in a contacting relationship by supporting each structure in a clamping device (3, 4) at a distance from its end face, and applying heat to the end parts of the structures that project from the clamping device. The end faces are pressed together by moving the clamping devices (3, 4) towards each other such that a welding pressure of between 0.05 and 0.5 Nmm , perpendicular to the end faces, is transmitted from the clamping devices to the end faces via the end parts of the structures, wherein the distance of the heating element from the end parts is sufficient to substantially prevent the heated parts of the structures to contact the heating element (10). The heating element surrounds the end parts along a substantially closed contour, and may comprise two segments which can be hinged into an open or closed position to be removed from the completed weld. The heating element may be energized in accordance with a predetermined heating profile, wherein the temperature of the weld area is measured and the heating operation of the heat generating member is increased or decreased to transmit and absorb heat from and into the heat reservoir member such that the temperature of the weld area is maintained within a predetermined margin around the heating profile. By using the method according to the present invention a very uniform and non-deformed butt weld can be produced under accurate temperature control of the weld area. Because the heating element does not directly contact the inner parts a uniform temperature distribution throughout the sealing volume can be achieved without degradation of the fluorine containing plastic material.

    • A method for manufacturing a resin-impregnated endless belt structure is carried out on an apparatus (60) having an outer cylinder (66) and an inner cylindrical surface that is coaxial with a smaller radius cylindrical mandrel (64). An endless base structure is disposed with the outer cylinder (66) on the inner cylindrical surface. The cylindrical mandrel, having an inwardly curved nose (68), is then inserted into the outer cylinder (66) forming a nip (70) between the curved nose (68) and the inner cylindrical surface. Polymeric resin is dispensed continuously into the nip (70) while the cylindrical mandrel is gradually moved into the outer cylinder (66). The nose forces the resin into the endless base structure and expels air bubbles while forcing the endless base structure against the inner cylindrical surface. After the polymeric resin is cured, the endless belt structure, having a totally impregnated, air-bubble free endless base structure with a coating on its inner surface, may be obtained upon removal of the apparatus (60).
