    • The present invention is directed to a method for producing a cured tire filling composition and the composition resulting from such a method. A mixture of a polyisocyanate having an average functionality of at least 2.3; a high molecular weight polyol having a hydroxyl number in the range of about 20 to about 31 and having an actual functionality of greater than 2.1; and 6 to 65 weight percent of a polar plasticizing extender oil is cured in the presence of a catalyst to form a polyurethane elastomer having a vertical rebound of greater than about 60 % based on ASTM D2632 and a Durometer hardness in the range of about 5 to 60 (Shore A). The mixture is used to fill a tire prior to curing the composition within the tire casing and results in a deflation-proof tire that has considerably longer road testing life than tire filling compositions currently available.

    • The invention relates to a noise-reducing design for vehicle wheels, in particular vehicle wheels fitted with tyres. The invention also relates to a method of developing conventional wheels. According to the invention, the hollow space (6; 6a, 6b) formed by a tyre (10) and wheel rim (1) is filled with a granular, non-deformable and temperature-stable filler. The filler dampens the resonance characteristics of the hollow space and thereby substantially reduces the noise emitted by the vehicle. The hollow space can be filled completely with the filler according to the invention. In addition to the filler, a gas, such as compressed air, is also used in the known way to fill the hollow space. The filling does not noticeably affect the static and dynamic characteristics of the vehicle tyres. In addition, a special filler chamber (6b) can also be provided for the material. A second chamber (6a) is filled in the known way with filler gas and the pressure of that gas is transmitted via a diaphragm (8) to the filler and thus to the wall of the tyre (10).
