    • Blow molded articles are made from a polymeric composition containing a mixture of polyphenylene sulfide resins. For instance, the polymeric composition may contain a linear polyphenylene sulfide resin combined with a branched polyphenylene sulfide resin. The composition can further contain a reinforcing agent, such as glass fibers, a polytetrafluoroethylene polymer, a polyphenylene oxide polymer, a silane coupling agent, and/or an impact modifier. Compositions made according to the present disclosure can have relatively high near zero shear rate melt strengths while also having high shear rate melt viscosities and high engineering stresses at a high percent elongations, making the compositions amenable to extrusion and molding processes. Compositions made according to the present disclosure are particularly well suited to molding articles with a complex shape. When producing blow molded articles, for instance, the composition provides better control over wall thickness while having improved interior surface smoothness at higher throughput and extrusion rates.

    • A method of manufacture of a bottle which may be closed by a push-on closure, apparatus for manufacturing the same, a bottle and a closure for the bottle. A bottle (72) is manufactured in a multi-component assembly. The bottle preform (not shown) is made by an injection moulding technique, having detents on its upwardly and outwardly facing surfaces. It is then transferred to a blow mould where it is first heated, and then shaped by inserting a blow pin (62) through the neck of the preform to stretch it in its longitudinal axis. During this operation, the top surface of the preform is bent down, such that the detent formed on the upwardly facing surface of the preform now extends laterally into the volume of the preform. The stretched preform is then blown to take the shape of the blow mould, forming the bottle (72). A closure is formed by injection moulding, and is held on the bottle by the laterally extending detents.

    • A mold assembly (10) for blow molding plastic articles (4) is provided having an upper mold member (12), a lower mold member (14) and a lower support member (16). The lower mold member (14) is preferably a relatively lightweight plate having a generally centrally located molding cavity (30) matingly matched with an upper molding cavity (20) in the upper mold member (12). The lower mold member (14) is moved horizontally and optionally vertically beneath an extrusion head (H) as a molten parison (P) is extruded. The lower mold member(14) is then transported to, and positioned within, the lower support member (16). The upper mold member (12) is then closed over the lower mold member (14) and lower support (16) to close the mold assembly (10). The molten parison (P) is then expanded in the mold cavity (20,30). After the molding operation, the plastic part (4) may be removed and the lower mold member (14) may be cooled by immersion in a cooling fluid. The apparatus to move the lower mold member (14) during extrusion of the parison (P) and to the molding station may be a robotic arm (R). The lower mold member (14) is relatively lightweight so that it may be efficiently moved by the robot arm (R) while the necessary structural support is provided by the lower support member (16).
