    • The invention concerns a case comprising a planar catalyst element (30) provided with orifices (31), which divides the container (10) into a first upper reaction volume (14) and a second lower confining reaction volume (15) and shaped so as to almost completely prevent an oxidising decontamination solution from circulating between the first and second volumes about the element and force controlled degassing of the oxidising solution contained in the second lower confining reaction volume only through the orifices (31). The invention is useful for decontaminating contact lenses with a hydrogen peroxide solution.

    • Apparatus is provided for use in the sterilization of contact lenses or the like, wherein lenses are disposed within a sterilizing solution (32) contained within a reaction vessel (22), which sterilizing solution (32) is capable of being decomposed through contact with a catalytic agent (62). The mounting of the catalytic agent (62) on the article supporting structure (40) prevents contact of the catalytic agent (62) with the solution (32) in the container (22) until the article supporting structure (40) with the contact lenses (52) therein is placed in the solution (32) in the container (22) for beginning the sterilizing process, to thereby prevent premature breakdown of the sterilizing solution (32) prior to the introduction of contact lenses (52) for sterilization therein.

    • A lens case for disinfecting, cleaning, or storing contact lenses is described that provides a sealing and venting system for allowing the release of gas while avoiding liquid leakage. The venting means allows venting of gas when internal pressure increases, while maintaining a seal that is substantially gas and liquid-impermeable at other times. The lens case includes a cap securable to a container barrel and a mating surface. The venting of gas occurs via a tortuous-path mechanism resulting from appropriate surface roughness being produced on at least one of a pair of mating surfaces forming a seal between the cap and the container. In a preferred embodiment, a relatively roughened surface is produced on a cap flange that is in the shape of a circular lip downwardly extending from the inner surface of the cap. The mating surface of the cap flange sealingly presses against the rim portion of the container. The apparatus is particularly useful for the disinfection of contact lenses with hydrogen peroxide in which excess peroxide is decomposed into water and oxygen.
